Edmond Tapsoba

It's a no brainer when you've got £20m to spend whether you spend it on an already failed PL 27yo or top young talent.

Positioning
It can be seen in the heatmap below that the right-footed Tapsoba mostly plays as a right centre-back, but that the Burkinese international also occasionally plays as a left centre-back. The defender likes to drive forward in possession and Vitória often play with a high defensive line, which will be explained later in this scout report.

Sounds much more like the sort of player we should be targeting based on this alone. That's the defensive system we use after all!

20 years old. Could be another slow-burner like Soyuncu, perhaps? Keep him around as backup for a bit then slowly introduce him to the first team once he's settled.

No idea how good he is, but the fee isn't particularly hefty and there's interest from clubs of a similar stature, so sounds somewhat promising.

Reading that ticks all the boxes Rodgers seems to always look for in centre backs, he's huge on that bringing the ball out from the back and breaking the midfield lines thing.

No guarantee he'll speak English either as Burkina Faso's official language is French, so he should know at least that and Portuguese from his time there. Communication is key with defenders.

Looks an interesting player, certainly not a bargain though and would still be a risk. Hopefully an interesting last couple of days in this window

He will have ricardo next to him who speaks Portuguese and ndidi, praet and Tielemans in front of

him who speak french. Won’t be an issue.

If he can't speak to his CB partner without going through someone else it probably will be. Neither one of Soyuncu, Evans, Benkovic or Morgan will be able to communicate with him, it was a big issue Caglar had in his first season here.

This is speculative anyway, I don't know for sure if he doesn't speak English but I'd suspect so. Half sure Kasper speaks Portuguese aswell as a few other languages too ;)

50m euro release clause - i know they bump those things up in Portugal but blimey, that's high for a 20 y o.  he must have signed a contract not that long ago?

you would assume that wolves will have the upper hand signing someone form Portugal once mendes makes a couple of bribes.

I don't know him but there's an interesting article on him here:

https://footballbh.net/2019/12/31/edmond-tapsoba-201920-scout-report-tactical-analysis-tactics/

Seems that he has pace and athleticism and is good on the ball.  Weakness include awareness and concentration but at 20 yrs of age, this should improve with experience.

This seems like it could be good business as cover and for the future.  He will only improve and increase his value.

Edit - Oops.  Apologies, didn't notice that @Gerard had already posted the same link.

Seems highly rated by fans in Portugal:

The last defender we brought from Portugal didn't turn out too bad...

If there's one club that could use someone who's 'very good in construction'...
