Remembering When Leicester Got Back On Track In 2008/09

Brilliant, although they've made an error as Gradel didn't score in the opening game vs MK Dons. It was the away game vs them that he did.

Gradel's failure to properly make it with us is the only real sour spot of that era. Not being able to keep Mark Davies was a blow but Cleverley did a great job and we had peak Andy King scoring goals for a few seasons then.

Some of Fryatt's finishing that season was obscene.

Elite player in League One weren't he, probably one of the most devastating players ever to grace that muck.

Gradel in the 97th minute. Limbs

Was in corporate home end (not that they have any real home fans. All my table were spurs, arsenal or Chelsea from MK)e.

A good 200+ ( including Rustie Lee) went wild in my section

The only down side to the day, was that Bernie was sat a row in front us, and stunk the place out :nigel:

Mate I remember when the news filtered through he'd signed a new deal just before Crimbo that season, ding dong merrily on high indeed.

Remember Steve Howard going from yer da's most hated player to fan favourite that season in all, what a bloke.

Astrit with best hair of any footy player ever, Lloyd bagging against Huddersfield with the funniest goal I've ever seen, about ten keepers, Marc Edworthy turning up at one point, what a season

Really underrated player IMO. In a season where we were at our lowest, he was a fantastic example of great attitude and ability to get us back on track. A very likeable player!

Remember the season very fondly…. It’s when I first started taking my kids….   I only went with mates before that occasionally (season ticket holder in the O’Neill years)

it was easy to get tickets and we generally won (which they enjoyed)

Went on to get us all season tickets and the rest is history…

They kind of earned their stripes before the miracle happened….!

I could be wrong (usually am) but I remember him bagging a hat trick against Southend at home and one of them was so good. Took a cross that was blasted at him (behind him almost), one absurd touch to set himself and the rest was easy. Chuffed he had that season with us because he was so unlucky with everything.

When Brian Stock chose to relocate his jaw the season after I didn't think we'd sneak the play offs.

One of my best friends is an MK Dons fan. He's never forgiven Gradel for that goal.

According to him they were on an upward trajectory back then and that goal was the moment it all went wrong.

I have remembered wrong - just about. Cross not quite blasted at him, first one in this compilation.

Cheltenham on that sunny day is one of my favourite aways. City fans here there and everywhere.

Hereford away for me. So old-school, 70ies flair everywhere. lol Terraces looked as if they were about to crumble any time.

2008-09 in League One. Thank God for having Pearson at the helm, Mandaric's money, Fryatt and Howard unstoppable up front, a decent defence, great loan signings, ever changing quality goalkeepers, a ridiculously long unbeaten run and then promotion confirmed when beating rivals Leeds in the April! I think Posh were runners up behind us, while Scunthorpe promoted via the play offs without Googling matters! Guess who won the Premiership out of the promoted three seven years later?? Er.....?!

All of that season Fryatt had some specific boots that I think only he used, they helped his heel issues. I never understood why a few years later not long before he moved to Hull he changed back to a more standard boot which he never looked comfortable in and the issue with his foot reappeared.

Got so much shit that summer we went down from all my Forest mates here in Nottingham. Was so worried we'd be down there for years like Leeds and that lot.

Looking back it genuinely was one of the best things that could have happened to us. I still wish it didnt take that, but we had years and years of absolutely poor championship football and everything kick started again after that.

Needed a big character like Nigel to stand up to Milan the control freak and do things his way. How anyone can give him any stick whatsoever baffles me. The most important manager in our history.

The season that allowed us to get rid of all the deadwood and get back on track. We had too many players that didn't want to be here and we brought in new and hungry players that did want to be here on a very limited budget. Pearson motivated them all to play within a system that was free flowing in attack but also solid at the back.

Pearson did it again after Sven had spent a large amount of money in those days and got rid of the likes of Beckford and Mills and brought in the likes of Vardy and Morgan to replace them.

The majority of that team were so likeable.  Not a great time to be a Leicester fan just before that but I remember that season fondly.
