Guest Kopfkino Posted 14 December 2020 Posted 14 December 2020 Just referencing the COVID thread. One’s been able to pretend to be Santa Claus and the other has had to be Scrooge so it obviously makes sense but the fact that Sunak is going to come out of the pandemic hugely popular and Hancock the opposite, when in terms of competence and what reports say about their respective positions throughout, Hancock is ahead. Don’t wish to defend Hancock massively, think he gets too much flak but never mind. I guess it’s more bemusement at how the regular Sunak shitshow goes unnoticed in comparison
Dahnsouff Posted 15 December 2020 Posted 15 December 2020 There are just figures in (UK) politics who will forever be derided and rightly so, it’s not limited to any party, but I will start David Cameron Jeremy Corbyn (Trying not to be too reactive to current events, as there is a tin can alley of easy targets available right now )

The Barnet formula favours the regions if more is spent in England then the regions have to be given more as well, so it isn't just a case of how much it is to get level with Scotland but having to give them the same proportion of that extra spend to reach parity. The East Midlands gets about £2000 per head of population spent on it less than Wales, Scotland and NI.

However, I'm still not sure about what the point being made is here, unless it's that the rest of the UK can't afford to implement this step in women's rights because of the Barnet formula (which I find hard to believe) or Scotland implementing it is somehow unfair or immoral because it's with "someone else's money" (which I think is both daft and frankly misogynistic). If the point here was clearer, I might be able to respond to it with greater clarity too.
Popular Post Voll Blau Posted 22 December 2020 Popular Post Posted 22 December 2020 Quote The home secretary caused a trial to be halted after an ‘ill-advised’ tweet about the deaths of 39 migrants before a verdict was reached. The comments were made while the trial of four alleged people-smugglers linked to the deaths was continuing at the Old Bailey in London, and no one had yet been convicted https://metro.co.uk/2020/12/21/priti-patel-almost-made-trial-into-deaths-of-39-migrants-collapse-13786378/ Should have been sacked on the spot for this. A Home Secretary who doesn't understand Contempt of Court laws is someone who's alarmingly underqualified for the post. 6
bovril Posted 22 December 2020 Posted 22 December 2020 Hannan's my favourite nutter. "After 43 years, we have pushed the door ajar. A rectangle of light dazzles us and, as our eyes adjust, we see a summer meadow. Swallows swoop against the blue sky. We hear the gurgling of a little brook. Now to stride into the sunlight."
UpTheLeagueFox Posted 22 December 2020 Posted 22 December 2020 The last seven polls (over the past 11 days) have the Tories either ahead (5) of Labour or level (2). Admittedly polls this far from the next GE are fairly pointless.
Innovindil Posted 23 December 2020 Posted 23 December 2020 https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-55420366 US President Trump has urged Congress to amend a $900bn (£670bn) coronavirus relief bill to more than triple its stimulus payments to Americans. Can only base my assumption on the reactions I've seen from both Democrats and Republicans I've seen online, but... Trump is right? only time in 4 years I've ever seen both sides of the internet divide react the exact same way, a mixture of abject disbelief and anger.

If I’d been a politician, there would have been someone ready with a camera ready to take a photo and “catch me out”. Our press have been an utter disgrace through all of this. 2

I was working in an office block in Peterborough on Thursday, I went to the toilet and removed my mask, and forget to put it back on on exit. Fortunately I remembered to pull my trousers up though. 1
