Was it Portugal's 445 new cases yesterday or the 1 death registered yesterday out of a population of 10 million that took it off the green list? lol

I wonder how this period specifically will be remembered in 20 years time.

Was very confused looking at that? Have hospital admissions skyrocketed? If it’s just on cases, well...

In more positive news, 75% of the adult population now partially vaccinated, virtually 50% fully vaccinated. Really are on the home run with the vaccination programme and we can’t be far off the point where even cases will struggle to get very high. We can’t be far off for 21st June surely.

its almost like they want people to holiday in the UK to boost the economy or something....

What happens if you are in Portugal currently? do you have to come back and now isolate? I know a few of our players are out there for instance.

They usually give you a period of at least 24 hours after the announcement to get home and avoid quarantine.

No idea. There has been a small increase in their cases but only the same as ours and their deaths are completely flatlined, you have to go back to the start of April to find a day with over 10 deaths. Baffling times we're living through.

Government says it needs to follow the data in deciding countries to go on/off the list.

Yet looking at BBC's newsfeed, Grenada is one country you'd expect to go green?

Only 161 cases since March 2020.

No new cases since February 2021.

No imported cases since allowing overseas travel

Regular variant checks along with 90% hotel staff vaccinated.

What does a country need to go on to the green list?

It’s nothing to do with data. It’s quite simply they don’t want people travelling abroad for holidays.
I can’t see any reason that Portugal has been put back on amber either.

What do changes mean for holidaymakers in Portugal?

If Portugal is moved from the green list to the amber list this afternoon, then the changes would take effect from Tuesday morning. So there is a bit of time for those who are in Portugal to get back.

But it would mean those who return after 8 June would be required to self-isolate at home for 10 days.

It's really terrible news for many people - plus we aren't expecting any countries to be added to the green list.

It all points to a really uncertain summer where international travel is really precarious.

Are they still expecting us to quarantine even if we’ve had the jab?  Good luck with that in the Summer. I was in the pub the other day and my mate was asking what if we get the text that we’ve been in contact with someone who’s tested positive due to us scanning that app when we went in. I’m struggling to see people taking them texts seriously this summer whilst deaths are single figures and hospital admissions low and virtually everyone is jabbed.

I wondered about that. Also, maybe they're taking a hardline approach on foreign travel in order to take a softer line on the 21st June lockdown relaxation?

Politically, there could be multiple benefits for the Govt:

- Still get the public feelgood factor from 21st June opening (maybe with a few minor measures still in force)

- Avoid a parliamentary rebellion by a lot of Tory MPs if 21st June is postponed

- Slight reduction in imported infections/risk of new variants by limiting foreign travel....counter-balancing increased domestic infections

- Big boost for the UK hospitality sector if most spend summer at home due to cost/difficulty of foreign travel

BREAKINGHalf of UK adults have both doses of vaccine

Half of UK adults have received two doses of a coronavirus jab, the vaccines minister has announced.

Nadhim Zahawi has tweeted about the "important milestone" and thanked the "brilliant team".

People who have received both doses have the highest level of protection available from serious illness caused by Covid-19.

It comes a day after Health Secretary Matt Hancock announced 75% people of UK adults had received a first dose.

Why have any green list at all then if they don't want people travelling?

To make it look like they want people to go abroad

They have to show it's at least a possibility

think you have hit the nail on the head.

They open up places like Spain, Italy, France and watch the cancellations pile in for British holidays, 1000's have booked 3 or 4 holidays in hope that one of the Countries comes on to the green list.

It would cost the tourism industry millions if not billions if Spain went on to the green list as the majority of British holidays have 'free cancellation' at the minute.

So much stress on what colour the country is, testing, quarantines, restrictions..it's hardly a ****ing holiday is it.

I don't know how strict they will be with checking people are quarantining but plenty will still go to amber countries and not bother with quarantine. Especially the wealthy.

I don't suppose anyone knows, but are there still significant covid restrictions in Australia, New Zealand or Singapore? I might just go for it if there aren't.

its getting into them countries that is the issue. I dont think they are allowing British tourists currently. I think you have to have a good reason to go and i dont think a holiday is classed as one.

As @Adster has said really. They have to make it look like there’s a possibility you may be able to go somewhere.

Maybe I should just sign for a team in the A-League.

Nothing in the data makes sense about this, it's purely to stop people spending money abroad and ensure they spend it in the UK instead IMO.

Pretty much the only silver lining. Some of the coastal towns will be celebrating this like a world cup, personally can't blame them after the battering they've taken.

They didn't seem that strict when things opened up last summer but anecdotal evidence now from a couple of friends suggest they've been calling people regularly, asking them to come to the door/window to check they're at home, fines of a grand upwards etc

Who is doing the calling and visiting peoples homes? Hired contracted people? Because the police haven't got the resources to deal with burglaries nevermind this lol

Surely not answering the door doesn’t mean you are in breach either. I rarely answer the door in the day as I’m working and unless it’s someone I’m expecting I ignore.  And if it’s a case of them telling u when they will be coming then no problems.  Also in this weather I’m in the garden with headphones on and wouldn’t hear the door

Test and Trace ring everyday and read off a script , if they believe your not being straight they can escalate to the police/border force.

If your really unlucky you might get a contractor come knock to see if your in.

They are definitely checking more now , last summer they didn’t call once. But I guess with more people going away they probably don’t have the resources to check everyone
