If you're looking for reasoned debate, or indeed any debate at all, the new GB News channel on freeview at least raise and discuss both sides of arguments. You have to pick the programmes and presenters to suit your own taste and requirement, but they appear to be a far more reliable source of news after a few weeks broadcasting, than the likes of BBC, ITV, C4 and Sky UK news.

I’m hoping this is a joke.
GB News is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever watched , car crash tv at its best.

No channel is slick in it's first few weeks after launch. Car crash TV it may be, but at least they discuss both sides of an argument and don't appear to be censored. They certainly haven't blacked out coverage of the protests in London yesterday, as the bbc seem to have virtually done.

Whatever side of any debate you're on, you're entitled to be given all of the information available, that doesn't seem to be the case on the mainstream news.

You find it a joke, I find it refreshing.

I’m intrigued by the idea that idea we just get used to catching this and allow it to circulate as it wants to - because it won’t make us particularly ill

before I make my point, I am 100% for getting back to where we used to be and that has to mean living with the virus BUT

we don’t know how post vaccination  contraction of covid is likely to affect us compared with pre vaccinated

in my household we are fifteen months on from having it

My wife is not the same person she was - nowhere near as sharp of mind, forever asking questions that she’s already asked (sometimes within the past hour). And physically not nearly as active with waves of fatigue which are completely unpredictable

I’m lacking physically - climbing staircases is quite tough when it never was. My sense of smell isn’t nearly as sharp as it was.

are we suffering from long covid or just being a year older?   No one knows

my eldest son still with parosmia which a specialist tells him may never get better

until we get some data on how vaccinated people are suffering with any post covid side effects , we are running fairly large risks if we just allow the cases to ‘run riot’.

again, this just emphasises the crassness of govt in allowing the delta variant to come in so easily - removal of restrictions with the background of a largely vaccinated population and low cases of spreading virus would be ideal. And it was within our grasp after the sacrifices we’d all made jan thru April and the vaccination program success

I'm really sorry that has happened to you. It sounds dreadful.

If it's any consolation Harrydc should be along to tell you covid isn't real. That'll help!

In all seriousness I do hope you get yourself fit and well again soon.

I’m not looking for sympathy, as I said many other have suffered bereavements and dreadful long covid  …….but I am concerned that whilst people wonder what the vaccines might do to them into the  future, they should be aware that covid leaves a mark and we have no idea how bad that may be into the distance ……

I’ve watched it and I can see why some big brands like IKEA and Grolsch have refused to advertise on there, it looks like a tv station for the Tory party owned by the right wing to promote a culture war and wind up anyone who wants to think it’s not ok to be a right wing racist , I’m in for freedom of speech and if that’s your thing go for it but I’ll stick to normal tv.

I'm not a right wing racist and I've watched it. What's this culture war to which you refer?

So IKEA have refused to advertise on there? Christ, well if I'd known a Dutch owned multinational conglomerate, who it's suggested avoided over £1billion in taxes over a 5 year period, won't advertise on there, I'd never have watched it. Grolsch? Another multi national owned by ABinBev, one of the World's two biggest booze brewing companies too. Yeah, I imagine their board of directors and owners are left wing do gooders too. No wonder they won't advertise on there.

Additionally, I said they were prepared to debate issues, including 10's of thousands of protesters on the streets of London, not practically black it out, like the bbc.

Yeah mate, you stick to 'normal' tv. If some of us don't want to listen to some of the propaganda spouted forth by the bbc, our 'neutral', tax payer funded national tv station, that's our choice.

It’s a right wing leaning news show which the owners have stated.
In all fairness I’d probably prefer a left leaning news show so we will probably never agree 😂

Can't get my head around the fact that people can go to clubs in Ibiza but not in Britain. The vast majority will be under 30, who are least likely to have a jab and most likely to have covid. Surely this will just make it accelerate around Europe? But is also a slap in the face to British businesses.

All I see atm is this app telling perfectly healthy people to self isolate, ruining their social lives, holidays, weekends etc. Whilst also costing them money in lost wages and things they've booked. As someone else said, do LFTs and if they're negative, crack on.

I really don't agree with you here mate.

Yes the app isn't faultless, but it gives an idea for those who have been in contact or near to a positive case to isolate to potentially stop any spread if they are asymptomatic for instance.

It's inconvenient and it's a pain, but it's a part of reopening society so I'm just getting on with it.

a) I believe the clubs in Ibiza will be outdoors

b) the people attending will have been tested prior to leaving U.K. so will be most unlikely to be carrying the virus

hence it’s v different

You're right, we'll probably never agree.

I will say this once more, I've watched because they're prepared to debate on issues that mainstream news seem to shout down, or barely report at all.

Additionally, I've never voted Conservative in over 50 years on this planet, if that's the source of your ire.

I'm very much left leaning, doesn't mean I can't sit and watch a news report without being corrupted, if that's what you're suggesting.

If you can't look through people's/broadcasters  personal leanings on a new shows and concentrate on the facts, then you probably shouldn't be watching any news channels at all.

This is the last time I'll bother... reply all you wish.

Once you get to Ibiza it's not normal Ibiza. Outside only for clubs and limited capacity.

If we all had the same opinions it'd be a boring place mate!

If you had to self isolate or do LFTs I'd agree with you. From everyone I know who keeps self isolating, they keep doing tests and getting negative results yet still have to isolate for 10 days.

Don't know if anyone else uses it but I've been using the zoe app for a week or so now. Miles ahead of the government data, and very accurate.

Cases still rising but slowing. Deaths now something like one in 1000 as opposed to 1 in 90.

Would really recommend it - much better than the headline grabbing nonsense.

They seem very confident on 2 jabs which is good news. Have my second in 4 and a half weeks 🤞

I use this as well. They have written some really interesting mini research reports using the data they have collected.

How do the powers that be actually police this?

I don't think they really can tbh. People just delete the app and carry on as normal. I've heard occasionally and rarely people come to your house to check, but I think that's more for quarantining after coming back from being abroad.

So you could just keep the app and leave your phone at home.

In case anyone doesn't know there is no legal requirement to self-isolate if the NHS app tells you to. The law covers when Test and Trace contact you directly as part of contract tracing but the app is exempt.

From what I have seen the app is deeply flawed and can do more harm than good - maybe that's why the law doesn't cover it. Like others have said I'm on the side of being pragmatic and taking LFTs, etc.
