Its incredibly disappointing to blow Champions League football 2 seasons in a row though and I don’t think anyone can deny that. Exactly how I see it

In the same period, Liverpool have taken 20. A ten point swing in only 8 games is pretty huge. Similar to last season. We underestimated winnable but not easy games. Painful to look at where we threw it away, for a second season running.

filbertway Posted 19 May 2021 Posted 19 May 2021 Fair play to the people that are happy to see the team be on the cusp of throwing away 2 massive opportunities to qualify for the champions league. I'm sure the repressed dissappintment will come out in therapy sessions a decade or two from now 1

Does that 'spoil' it for you? Love the Cup win but being in the top 4 majority of the season, it's the manner In which we capitulated out of the top 4 is shocking. Not once but twice, you only have to look at our recent league performances, they aren't performances of a top 4 team, where is the BR brand of football we played in the first half of the season. I don't think it is all down to fatigue and injuries, we are not mentally strong enough in the 'champoinship rounds', where it really counts. 1

A lot of people will be disappointed with the ending of the league season for the second year running. We will be laughed at for it for a few years to come. We are not quite Spurs level though because we actually won some silverware. Yea they are separate competitions but when you evaluate the season as a whole how are you gonna feel? Because there are people on here that are making out like its the end of the world. When in actual reality we've had an unbelievable season. @Babylon said it above, 6 weeks ago we were only 5 clear with 3 key players out and the hardest run in. Edited 19 May 2021 by ARTY_FOX 1
kingfox Posted 19 May 2021 Posted 19 May 2021 As Will McKenzie once said. ”I do like football, but not Burnley, Burnley can fvck off”.
Guest Mickyblueeyes Posted 19 May 2021 Posted 19 May 2021 Villa are getting something. I’m sure of it. We’ll beat spurs. Kel will score. This season is all about highs and lows. We’ve gone high to low this week. It’s time for a high.

Much better than I expected. However, I will be wondering what might have been, almost like a little bad aftertaste. 1

Chelsea's missing the likes of Havertz, bringing on Giroud and still have Abraham, Hudson-Odoi and Ziyech. We had Amartey, Morgan and Fuchs. The continued top 6 finishes will allow us to increase that squad depth bit by bit.
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 19 May 2021 Posted 19 May 2021 We won the FA Cup and are guaranteed Europa League at worst, it's not been a bad season let's be honest!

Would the FA cup final even the quarter final vs UTD not count as 'championship rounds'? I think there's a point where our focus shifted and tbh I'm glad it did. Edited 19 May 2021 by ARTY_FOX

So my disappointment is tempered by the fact we achieved something I thought we never would. Different fans have different experiences. Go and have a look at the 'Who's it For?' thread on the eve of the cup final to understand why some people are at peace with missing out on the top 4. Of course, that's not the same for everyone and nor should it be. 1

Grebfromgrebland Posted 19 May 2021 Posted 19 May 2021 Wouldn't it be great to have an exciting positive last game of the season which was decisive? The last one I can think of would have been winning a play off final. We've had a lot of really negative ones in recent memory eg. Deeney day, losing to man utd last season, losing to Stoke to get relegated, that famous chipped penalty etc. When was the last season defining finale which was enjoyable?

Yes they've had their injury issues, but by God so have we.
foxes_rule1978 Posted 19 May 2021 Posted 19 May 2021 Just hope we go for the EL next season, with the season being more back to normal that should help. Get some players to strengthen the squad, plus a good pre-season for Ricardo and Maddison.
