James Maddison - 4 year deal, £110k per week

Ey?

It’s a loan against money that then comes in to the club account the following season. It’s guaranteed against the money that we are then at liberty to pay back. It’s to ease cash flow. If we were consistently borrowing more then we could afford then James Maddison’s salary would be the least of your worries because we’d be on the way to going bust!

It's a loan against future performance and the expectation that we stay in the Premier League.

Presumably it isn't given to us for free either.

In 2019 we had a 26% increase in wage costs and confirmed a loss of £20m.

The debt has climbed to a staggering amount over the last 2 years.

Fingers crossed we maintain our out of trend assault on the top 6 as our spending demands it.

So you don’t think Maddison was excellent up to the new year?

I don't think he produced the output of a player who is on £110k a week, no.

Make no mistake, this is a gigantic and out of trend wage for us. Our revenue doesn't allow us to have many on this much money and I'd argue he hasn't actually earnt being ond of them atm.

Christ better nip back down the KP with the buckets of coins again lads. The debt is at staggering amounts and we’re paying Maddison beyond our means how has this happened?! Sack the board and fold the club.

I personally think you’re trying to force an issue on to Maddison that isn’t there. It isn’t players like James Maddison who are a financial burden on the club with a bumper new contract, it’s players like Slimani and Silva who are sat on fat contracts doing **** all that skew the numbers.

I would suggest this is less about his on the field performances, which while obviously important to getting his value and desirability high, are not the only factors involved. He gets to a certain level, he automatically attains a higher value to perspective buyers. If, as is quite possible, he sold in 1 or 2 seasons time, his value will be higher as a consequence of his wage and it will be more difficult for potential buyers to argue its value down.

To get the money early rather then in staged payments, not to spend more money the we have coming in.

We have made a loss in 1 of the last 5 seasons.

We have lost money in 2 seasons out of the last 3.  Without Maguire and Mahrez money the accounts would look a disaster.

How dare you.

Don't you dare question the current financial approach the club is taking. Be a good little boy and take everything the club does as unquestionable.

I would also make a completely over the top and meaningless remark along the lines of 'Christ better nip back down the KP with the buckets of coins again lads' but someone's beat me to it...

No its 1 season of out of the 5 according to Swiss Ramble, who specialises in footy finances!

Following promotion to the Premier League, #LCFC delivered four years of profits, amounting to £137m, before the £20m loss in 2019. This was obviously boosted by the amazing £92m surplus in 2017, which is actually the third highest profit in PL history.

Do you every stop to think we wouldn't have sent as much in the transfer market without those sales?

Yeah I get that you feel you’ve been patronised and belittled but maybe people trust the owners that have enhanced the club 10 fold since they arrived and bought unrivalled success.
Go back 10-15 years and remember we had massive debt and few assets, at least we have assets now. I’d be more concerned if they were taking money out of the club.

Which begs the question as to why it’s remained un publicised ...... there must be a reason .......

Maybe there's a contract clause concerning keeping a potential release clause quiet until the transfer window ends. Or maybe they want the photo op at the new training centre with shirt in hand.1

In which case the clause wouldn’t kick in until the summer window closes ......... anyway, we don’t do release clauses ..........

The thing is if the financial approach is as wrong as you make out ,the biggest losers would be kp, they are clever enough to have become hugely successful in virtually everything they do, the days when we couldn't afford to paint the turnstiles down filbo have thankfully long gone, i trust in top, the board and kp, they haven't done to bad so far.

I tend to trust the owners who have delivered probably are most successful period in our history.

An the fact they have a self made fortune of several billon pound , mean I trust there financial judgement over my own.

And you are welcome to trust as you wish.

I'm also allowed to disagree or question things the club do. It is not healthy for the fans to just blindly follow.

The KP key business has and is taking an absolute hammering. Nobody knows the knock-on effect that this will have on us or the long term effect on them.

Disagree completely!

I dont understand your logic. We have quite a few players who we are either selling or their contracts are up ie. Silva/Slimani/King. Someone posted on FT recently that with the 4 players discussed that it totalled £300k per week.

So how can we not afford it?

KP aren't allowed to keep giving the club money to operate with anyway? They haven't done for years and any investments like the training ground are via loans. If their personal wealth take a hammering then eventually they might be forced to sell but they don't strike me as an operation that would just rinse us of our £180m turnover and then scarper.
