Is the improvement in him solely down to maturity or down to training/coaching?

Despite the negative press Rodgers is getting on here even reading “highlight 1 player he has improved” Rodgers has nurtured Maddison into what we are seeing. Yes the talent was always there but he’s now bringing it all together.
His chances of making an England squad are advanced due to the variation of style he is building, we know, he knows, Rodgers knows his best position is down the centre but as stated England don’t play a #10 but whilst we don’t like it having Maddison pushed out wide right it’s a teaching lesson for him and he’s growing, he’s understanding about mixing up his game as an 8, 10 & 7ish which is going to push him closer in a discussion when talking about Mount and Grealish where as before the conversation was Maddison’s a 10 we don’t need.

I believe he was in the U21's, and i don't think that was too early for him at all.

Personally, if Madders had the season he has had wearing an Arsenal shirt, then he makes the England squad.  Squad, not first 11.

Yeah, he's been part of the under 21's for a while now, not the first team.

Agreed. Maddison had better defensive stats than Jordan Henderson a couple of seasons back so the idea that he can only play as a 10 is a load of rubbish. Southgate for all the good he's done, he's got it horribly wrong with Maddison. Such double standards with his treatment. Criminal to think he only has 1 England cap when you look at who else has been picked in that time.

England have a load of midfielders and 1 and 1/2 strikers ( not counting Vardy). If Kane and Stirling are not available they are mostly toothless. If Maddison was described as a striker he might stand a chance.

When did Thomas get called up? Must have missed that.

Ahh looks like I got it wrong, I know it was in serious contention and I think even Southgate complimented him but his form probably the reason he didn't get called up.

He deserves massive praise from coming back after a truly awful start of the season to become so influential for us. He’s also facilitated the switch to 433 allowing KDH to shine whilst still providing goals and assists.

If I had one criticism of him it would be that he hasn’t produced in the big matches. But then again who has?!

He and KDH have been the most consistent players this season for us, with Maddison having his best G+A season for us so far.

Numbers don't lie this season. Wonder what excuse Southgate will pull out the bag to keep him out

The FA only want players from the “big six” to pull in viewers and get more eyeballs for their sponsors. City players aren’t commercially appealing enough.

Brilliant for the whole game today, would be a shame if the stubborn Gareth Southgate and his cronies ignore him for the World Cup, and Barnes & Justin as well…

Tbf Mount has got pretty fantastic numbers this season too.

It’s Smith-Rowe and Grealish who are ludicrously getting picked ahead of him, not Mount.

ESR especially has been warming Arsenal’s bench and done nothing since about October but still got in the last England squad ahead of Maddison.

If Southgate don't pick him then he's def got an agenda against us or the player, been class this season..

Barnes should get in there as well judging by those numbers
