Brendan Rodgers' instruction to Leicester City scouting team over 'broken' players

Recommended Posts

You can see a lot of this way of thinking in how Congerton operated at Sunderland

Jack Rodwell from the Man City wilderness, Defoe back from MLS, Jan Kirchoff from Bayern, Yann M'Villa from Russia.

Not many of them worked out though

Tielemans and Under definitely fit into this category, perhaps Evans too.

As Ric Flair says, this is a perfectly reasonable approach for some players, just not all of them. Some players aren't utilised correctly because of the systems that their teams use, e.g. Griezeman and Coutiinho are great players, but they look terrible for Barcelona because of the way they play at the moment.

Götze has dots above his name and the same agent as Ünder, it really is a no brainer.

Also sacked off the agent he joined in just April to join the new one a couple of weeks ago!

This is one of the only ways you can work with a very restricted budget, makes sense to do it with 1 or 2 but not every signing.

Which basically is what we are doing isnt it?

Fofana and Castagne wouldnt fit the same profile as under. Rodgers has proved with iheanacho what impact his coaching can have (same with gray as well).

All good and well when you're managing Celtic or Swansea.

Not so good at Liverpool. It got him the sack in the end. Despite the best efforts of Suarez, Sterling and Coutinho.

No problem punting on players when you're not at the top but when you should be at the top you should be looking to buy players that are at the peak of their powers and entering the primes of their career.

Be interesting to see how that sort of mentality would work here. We're currently in Europe having finished 5th (would have finished in the top 4 barring Covid).

I think we're in a position to buy players that are ready now and are performing regularly for their clubs.

Only if we have the cash to pay inflated prices which I suspect we haven't. Plus we're still seen as a parochial club by players and agents so they will always choose a 'bigger' club either in the PL or in Europe.
