Title says it all, what the best ever soundtrack for a game? For me there's one hands down answer:

For me, in no particular order: 

 

Mega Man 2 - The best 8-bit soundtrack (Super Mario Bros 3 a close second)

Sonic The Hedgehog 2 - The best 16-bit soundtrack (honorable mention for Streets Of Rage 2)

Final Fantasy VIII - Nobuo Uematsu at his absolute best. Probably the most eclectic of his OSTs. The orchestral main theme "Liberi Fatali" blew my adolescent mind coming from a PS1. 

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 - Just so much fun.

Hotline Miami 1 & 2 - Inspired me into to making Darksynth and Synthwave

 

There's probably many more I've forgotten.

GTA Vice City had some absolute bangers.

Tony Hawk Underground 2 was pretty sick too.

 

Menu music for GRID has always been my favourite. They also used Queens of Stone Age - No One Knows for the intro music too.

San Andreas, 10/10 soundtrack on its own but it worked so perfectly in the setting.

 

THPS 1 + 2 had awesome soundtracks, also really enjoyed Forza Horizon 2's rock/indie stations (there was a lot of filler though that brought it down a bit)
