I don’t care if there male, female or where they come from the standard needs to be improved and fast.

It’s time the Premier League seriously looked at alternative ways of recruiting new refs, be it former players, search the world in the same way clubs do for the best talent, have their own courses identifying talent in other sports who they can train to adapt. I don’t care how, but it needs improvement and fast.

Why does Sian Massey never ref a game? She's one of the best most experienced assistants (lino's) in the UK game.

The female ref we had in Europe was fantastic.

Curious.

sexism, misogyny, lads.

Are there different qualifications for assistants and referees?

If it's possible, PL should get Stephanie Frappart involved. She's the official we had in EL game earlier this season and was quality. She's done CL games as well so you'd think she'd be a great mentor. I think PL should look at getting foreign referees anyway. They generally seem to be a higher standard than all but one or two refs that we have in place as it is.

I think European refs are better generally. You'll get the odd one still poor but in the Europa League the standard seems to be better than the Premier League.

I said the latter part recently. VAR doesn't work here because we have a handful at max of good referees.

The PL is supposedly the best league in the World, why not go out and get the best refs from across the globe? You'd see a massive improvement.

I agree, but isn't that because the best domestic refs get the European games?

I'm sure there are countrys with better standards than ours, but it makes sense that we see the better 10/20% of refs. I'm sure there are plenty of shit refs in other leagues too!

the standard is so piss poor in the premier league id be happy to see female refs if it meant replacing the dross we currently have.

The current lot can't even identify a foul/non-foul after looking at it on a screen for a couple of minutes.

haha yeah you're probably right.

Considering the PL is the most global league you'd think we'd have much better officiating.

Refs when they reach that stage in their career make a choice, continue to be a top flight assistant referee, or if you want to be a top flight ref, go back to league two I think it is and try and work your way up.

John Brooks is a Leicester ref who is currently doing the latter after he reached the same level Sian Massey is now. Instead of continuing as a FIFA assistant referee he gave that up to try and become a top flight ref. Think he's currently at SG2 now which is one away from the prem.

If you look back at top flight refs they were all assistant referees first. Some just decide they want to stick as an assistant and not a ref and I imagine Sian chose that.

For the record, I think she's one of the best assistant referees in the prem.

That's extremely informative. Thank you for insight. Much appreciated.

There's quite a few in non league, but yeah strange not many in the football league. It's funny Sian Massey actually has been the main ref in female football same rules etc... yet can't ref a men's game?

I thought honestly that it was the best refereeing performance I’ve seen in a long time, if not ever. I’d love to see her refereeing an EPL game

Word is he's got a good chance of the getting on  the Prem list in the next year or two.
