Odsonne Edouard

Kelechi would be too shit. I wouldn't sign him for my son's under 5's team. I'd much rather have had Slimani and that's saying something.

I liked this comment but then realised you might be a bit biased, after all, it is a bit third worldy up there isn't it? 😱😱😂😂😂😘

(Doesn't make odsonne sound such a good buy with his current record, but **** it! Gerrimin!)

Ok, take this with a dose of salt, I'm not saying he is as good or ever will be anywhere close to as good but his style is a lot like Thierry Henry's was. He plays as a central striker but naturally drifts left and is effective at both picking the ball up from this position and runnng at defenders and running in behind. He has the same languid, nonchalant style as well that sometimes can be mistaken for looking as if he can't be arsed lol

So a poor mans Beckford then? :D

Not like we are any different? Players are sometimes flavor of the month. Right now i'd bundle Kalechi into my car and drop him off anywhere... After the Everton winner I was willing to marry the bloke.

If it's a toss up between celtic and over the edge of a cliff, celtic just edge it.

If they ain't interested, cliff it is.

During the last time the press linked him to us, I'm sure I read somewhere he is the closest to a natural replacement (that we are/were likely to get) for vardy (in time).

I read that as though he must be rapid? If he is, and also reminds you more of henry, I'm all in.

Please advise

No offense mate but Iheanacho is actually the type of player that does well in the spl. His strengh is his finishing and composure (when on form). He doesnt make it here because his all round game is often weak along with his decision making 2 things he would get away with in the spl

I actually think this would be amazing for both sides. You get a  goal replacement (once he finally gets the first goal he always needs to get going) he ends up with a decent goal record and in the summer newly promoted side would take a punt on him. Or you would make an offer. Hes still young so good deal for someone if they can get him playing.

Kel is much better than people think but the issue is confidence. When its low, he really does drop to an abysmal level but its not because hes a bad player. Watch footage of him from last season when he was in a confident mood and come back and tell me hes not good enough for you.  I mean cmon you signed Ajeti from west ham lol

If it would get the edouard deal done id cover all of his wages. Because id be so certain he'd come back with an increased value.

An interesting opinion.

Would be great for all parties if you are  right and it happened but I'd be seriously worried about @Muzzy_Larsson in the short term.

ps. If it does come and ff, I know a good counsellor muzzy

You don't become the star striker for France U21's without a very high level of talent, he's comparable to Moussa Dembele who's performances have translated equally as well and expected at supposed higher levels.

For the price he'll likely be available (half of what Villa paid for Ollie Watkins) it'll be a great move to do.

And as pointed out, the lad is 22, nearly 23. Watkins is 2 years his senior too.

Would be a brilliant purchase.

I've always thought Edouard seemed the best bet who was gettable. Ings probably the most likely to be similar to Vardy but age/injury record on top of there being no chance Southampton let him go for anything that isn't crazy money makes that one a non-starter.  One thing @Muzzy_Larsson can probably answer is that I've heard a few say Edouard struggles to play on his own up top is that true?

The opposition are so poor kelechi would probably do ok up there. Before he came to Leicester his conversion rate was the best in the premier league. Run of games might get you a decent player. Most players look rubbish playing once every 3 months

Before he came to Leicester he was statically the most lethal goal scorer in PL history by the metric of goals per minute played. He also won the Golden Boot at the U17 World Cup.

He had an outstanding pedigree but on the flip side of that coin elite clubs don't sell their best young players to Leicester, it was very much a case of beware of Greeks baring gifts.

Muzzy, do you think there's any possibility that Edouard could have any lingering, long-term effects from COVID?

If we want to buy him but have any doubts about his capability to develop sufficiently with us, I guess it would make sense to try for a low basic price but bulk up with add-ons.

Football is all about opinions and I respect yours but I don't agree with it at all, I've seen a lot of him and the guy is mince, no gold plating of him will convince me otherwise.

Signing guys like Ajeti is another major reason I'd avoid guys like Iheancho.

I'd much rather we went back to the model that has worked well for us in the past and try and find the next Edouard than sign squad fillers from the EPL who are on and would want extortionate wages, by our standards anyway.

I also think you probably underrate Iheanacho and he would do well in the SPL as he's naturally an excellent finisher and would get plenty of chance at Celtic.

I do agree that Celtic would be better off looking for up and coming players like Edouard when he signed rather than signing PL flops who are 25 this year like Iheanacho.

Edouard would be just the ticket this window, and improve our options up front. Another thing that's a plus in the Edouard column is his set piece ability. He's a proven penalty taker and also a very decent free kick taker. I'm all for mixing it up from Maddison there so it would be a welcome option in that respect.

I'm with you on this. If we sign him this window, it wouldn't surprise me if it's on deadline day - no one has any money and thus you want to hold all of your cards as close to your chest as possible till the very last moment. I know there will be interest in Edouard from other clubs too, notably Arsenal and Milan but think we might be in a better position than those two to push through the deal based on transfer priorities of all of the clubs mentioned.

Slimani leaving surely opened the door for this move and honestly it makes sense for all parties involved. We've shown we can pay promptly to Celtic through the Rodgers deal so can probably structure the fee over several windows, the player knows the manager well, he'll get plenty of chances to play and yet won't be thrown to the lions if he doesn't bang them in straight away.

Don’t reckon Millwall could afford him!

This signing ticks many boxes. Improves squad, fair price for a striker that improves squad, still young with room for development and an increase in value for a potential sell on. Rodgers knows him, quick,

But I’m more inclined to think it will happen in the summer if it is to happen at all

Risk missing out european qualification should something happen to Vardy?

If we've identified him as a player that suits our needs then why wait, sooner a player arrives and gets bedded in the sooner they can help you.
