The Super League

The TV money comes from the international audience. Not football fans as we understand them. The international audience absolutely only wants to watch the big six.

Don’t think this is true at all. I live in the US and most of the fans here are fans of football because it is not like American sports at all.  I will not watch a Leicester match in the “Super League” if they were to make it.

Reminds me of a situation in the US when NASCAR saw more of the “wine crowd” becoming interested in their sport and started marketing towards them. Forgot their core crowd the “beer crowd.” Made some short term money but lost their long term fans and have been trying to recover since.

This may work for a year or two, but it will get stale and they will come crawling back, after crippling their businesses. Just hope we can find a way to stick it to them when they try to come back.

Could the players currently contracted to these clubs walk away from their contracts? If these clubs get thrown out of domestic leagues and their players are banned from international football, surely this constitutes a change in working conditions? You can’t just change the players terms of employment and expect them to just follow the clubs into the unknown/abyss?

An excerpt posted in an article about this today:

Clause 6.1.1 of a standard Premier League contract relates to employer obligations and dictates the club should not do anything that stops a player featuring for his country. It also states that clubs shall observe the rules, which are defined as “the statutes and regulations of FIFA and UEFA and the FA Rules and League Rules”, meaning in theory any club leaving those competitions would be in breach of contract.

Jp Morgan must already have a tv deal in place. Works have not got this far without it.

This is starting next season so it's already a long way down the road for them. This has been in the planning for a long time. It's also why it'll go ahead no matter how much outrage is caused. The Glazers aren't going to come out and say "My bad, didn't realize you'd feel like this, we're taking it back.". Nah, this is happening. It's how everybody (including the FA) responds and acts that matters now. Docking them 20+ points or even kicking them out of all comps doesn't really matter (it's why they should definitely do it anyway). Because next season they'll be in the SL. It'll have no real lasting effect on them. They have effectively wiped this season. Of all seasons, just reveals what utter scum they are. It's so nice for people to get a glimpse of their true faces. Like Amazon exploiting its workers in a pandemic while their profits has shot through the roof.

Whether the FA even does anything will be questionable. They're a terribly run organization and have repeatedly shown they're ONLY interested in money and appeasing these big clubs. If the big clubs decide to call their bluffs the FA will eat cr*p and back down. We have to not only address what this means regarding the big six but also the fundamental issues within the organizing bodies that has led us here. Because they have led us here. They are culpable in this situation and have to also pay for it.

Interesting opinion....AC Milan no title in 9 years

Inter Milan no title in 10 years

Arsenal no title in 17 years

Man United no title in 8 years

Spurs no title in 60 years

Liverpool 1 title in last 31 years

Atletico 1 title in last 25 years

Real Madrid and Barcelona both reportedly having financial difficulties.

Juventus currently 4th and risk missing out on CL football.

Chelsea and Man City will always board the gravy train.

Super league my arse.... more like rich clubs scared of not being successful anymore and sustaining their wealth so they invent a competition to keep themselves rich.
These clubs think they can make £300m more a season via the super league and then waltz back to play in their home leagues on the weekends with a massive financial advantage over everybody else, what an absolute disgrace.

Good point. Clubs like us are a threat to the established order, and it feels like this attempted power grab comes at a time when these clubs feel their influence may be in danger of dwindling? Basically taking their ball home when they’re 15-14 up.

should Spurs realize it, the other 5 leaving would be their best chance of winning the premier league ever.

instead they will be joining a league they have little chance of ever winning.

Nothing changed there then.

Presumably the 2 in with a chance of winning major silverware this year.

Man city and Chelsea are the rumoured ones.

Gary Neville made a good point about Man city owners hardly needing the money and they've put a lot into Manchester and Manchester City to improve their worldwide reputation and this defeats that purpose. Also Man City were the last to sign up only a couple of days a go so maybe they're the least invested in it so first to break?

This could be a blessing in disguise really if it doesn't go through. Put down the hammer HARD on these owners. Make them suffer for their literal crimes. I'd even try to force them to sell. What they're doing is illegal 100%..

But i hope to god the champion league reforms don't go through. Unlike with Britain France and Hitler in the 30s, there should be NO APPEASEMENT to them

Typical socialist. All fuching talk. Which, before anyone puffs out their chest, is just the same as every other political persuasion. Lots of chat but little backbone.

Milner stood tall along with Bamford there. Good lads both. We need more, many more to come out and support them. One or two players is a start, hopefully it builds quickly. We need to counter the ESL momentum before it becomes unstoppable - which it likely already is.

😂😂. What does that have to do with it mate? Judge klopp for whom he is as a person not for his so called political views

And he's not like sir Alex or someone like that, he's very very overrated in that aspect. People like him because of his vague passion

And by the way, not to burst your bubble, this is a microcosm of the macrocosm of neoliberalism. Soon we'll be paying to breath air probably.

Look at what happens when you cut all regulation away and let the rich do whatever they want. Just saying since you want to get political

I read somewhere earlier that they were given an ultimatum last week that it was happening with or without them.

Agree with your points but Hitler references are usually not a good idea...

Pardon 😂, I mean, there shouldn't be any appeasement to them, unlike what happened with great britain and France regarding nazi Germany, where they kept giving in till it was too late

Wtf is he going on about? Did he listen to what Neville was saying?

Klopp really has played the victim here hasn't he? He's totally missed the point of anything Neville has said and latched on to being offended because Neville dared to mention you'll never walk alone.

Shown himself up here. I think you can tell he's irritated about it all, and perhaps not just Neville. There's a frustration in his voice.

(Klopp) Clearly a man under intense pressure and he is not coping.

Nationalise the clubs...easily done. Take 51% away and give it to the community.

I would hope that this utter madness won't go through. Unfortunately from the way these incredibly selfish and greedy clubs are operating its quite clear that they aren't afraid of opposition and will pull every trick out of their hats to overcome any challenge to this hideous scheme.

And it begins 🤣

Pretty sure it was when the MLS was formed they wanted to increase the size of the goals and limit the number of defenders who could enter the penalty box to encourage higher scoring games

If the Premier League had a wage cap, which would have curtailed a lot of the oil rich clubs trying to buy the league years ago, would this stop the “Unsuper League Greedy Six” being so dominant?

The Premier League is popular, as its unpredictable. It doesn’t have a single

super club that has steam rolled all others, season after season. We’re maybe on the cusp of that with Manchester City though, albeit other clubs have stood up to them.
