But tigers had exactly this injury problem a few years back, new coach (Borthwick) comes in and clearly changes the training methods so that injuries all but disappear. Has to be a similar scenario with the city. P. S. not suggesting we should poach Borthwick... Yet 😂 They also employed Aled Walters at the same time who is a world class strength and conditioning coach within Rungy Union. The fitness levels of the tigers squad have improved immensely.

Aled Walters was the Physical Performance coach for World Cup winning South Africa, Kevin Sinfield, Rugby League legend and now Tigers defensive coach, hard as nails. He ran from Leicester to Leeds in 24 hours inspired by his ex-playing partner Rob Burrows.

And I guarantee that when there's a positive change that this gets referred to but when the situation is absolutely dire there are so many excuses and diversions that it's not about improving the way the players are handled, it's simply luck.
coolhandfox Posted 9 March 2022 Posted 9 March 2022 We had a Rugby based fitness coach in the early 2000, I think we Taylor was here, that was a complete disaster. Can't remember his name.

I'm sure it's a horses for courses situation, but the point is that getting the right people in those positions can make a very big difference. 3

The point is that Tigers had horrendous fitness issues for a good while and yet under a new regime with new fitness staff as well has significantly improved it and is being heralded as such. The same happens in football and is acknowledged but when it's the other way people refuse to consider anything could be done about it and that its simply bad luck. You don't fluke 2 years worth of relentless injuries, certainly not when there's so many examples of disregard and especially on players quickly getting injured again after lay offs. 3

Sorry I was more interested in remembering who he was, that was the only reason I commented! 3
Dan Posted 9 March 2022 Posted 9 March 2022 Arsenal and Man Utd no - though these things are never that simple and they'll just feed into the long term trend. I think he's back under pressure if we crash out to Rennes because that'll represent failure in every competition this season.

CrispinLA in Texas Posted 10 March 2022 Posted 10 March 2022 (edited) What's happened to him...he a changed man. Bringing on attackers in the last quarter instead of defenders. Is this a first? And we went for the second goal. Keep it up Brendan👏 Edited 10 March 2022 by CrispinLA in Texas 3
Vazman Posted 10 March 2022 Posted 10 March 2022 Credit to BR for this today, great use of Subs at exactly the right time, I still would like too see Nacho and Daka upfront together 3
Popular Post StriderHiryu Posted 10 March 2022 Popular Post Posted 10 March 2022 For me the most impressive thing is he got the team playing after a terrible start. The first 20 minutes we were sloppy and giving the ball away, but he was shouting at them from the sidelines and fixed it. There was a passage between 20-24 minutes where we didn't make a chance but kept the ball for 3 minutes. That got the confidence back and helped us establish control. We need to do things like that more often. We are a fairweather team; when it's going our way great, but awful when it's not. The best teams can recover from problems to get a consistently good performance in every game. 9
lcfcsnow Posted 10 March 2022 Posted 10 March 2022 Can't help but think its because he's not over complicating things due to limited options, if Fofana hadn't got Covid he'd have probably gone to a back five. 2

Gazza M Posted 11 March 2022 Posted 11 March 2022 I think it feels like the board have sat him down some point after the Wolves match and reassured him he is their man but given him a polite kick up the arse at the same time. 1
DoveValleyFox Posted 11 March 2022 Posted 11 March 2022 I criticised Rodgers during awful runs in the last couple of seasons. The defensive coaches might have been put on final warnings. They might have been reorganised in a cabinet reshuffle. Amartey or Cags might have been given more leadership responsibilities. Maybe the dm's have been given extra coaching. Whichever, or whatever it is I have been impressed by the improvement. With players still out I can only applaud Rodgers for doing whatever he has done to improve things. Long may it continue because my faith in Rodgers has increased. 3

I feel like our plan was just to try and weather the first 20, which is when they're apparently at their most dangerous, and then look to gain control back from them once they began to tire. It went exactly as one of the Rennes fans said it would. If that is the case, then fair play for having the tactical nouse to handle that. Again though, tactically, I think when he's not under pressure then he's a great coach. As soon as there's some pressure, that's when he overthinks it and our performances turn to crap. Now we've got something to lose against a very decent side, it'll be interesting to see how we play next Thursday. 3
Ric Flair Posted 11 March 2022 Posted 11 March 2022 1 hour ago, Ric Flair said: Has anyone noticed the subtleties to Brendan Rodgers tactics. We are a team that can and does score goals but the way in which we do that is often if we're not in control of games and therefore we attack out of necessity and as a defence rather than because that's our number one target. It's often when we are playing basketball football with the potential for lots of goals at both ends that Rodgers then seems to be more inclined to make defensive and protective substitutions in the latter stages of games to try and hold out than what we are seeing in recent weeks, where we've become more in control, scoring less goals but also less afraid that we need to shut up shop and hope we nab the win or draw. I know confidence benefits and helps players and managers alike and will impact on the decisions they make but I've always felt that although we are a high scoring team, it's not what the manager or players are happiest at doing. Its 1-0 / 2-0 wins that they absolutely love, which may sound obvious but it's where I see Rodgers make more rational decisions too and allows his players to play with authority. 1
Clever Fox Posted 11 March 2022 Posted 11 March 2022 Brendan deserves as much credit as the players for recent results. I wonder was the threat of a big reshuffle in the Summer frighten the players into trying harder which they have seemed to do. Anyway, it's working so let's keep it up and have a big finish to the season.
mozartfox Posted 11 March 2022 Posted 11 March 2022 Morrisons are going need to stock-pile pallet loads of Humble Pie before the season is out. FT members deserve a discount. 2 1
