It would be nice to give Man Utd a scare (or better), but I'd settle for 3rd right now.

Fixture congestion notwithstanding, Man Utd will surely get at least 6-7 points out of their matches at home to Fulham and away to Villa & Wolves (they're unbeaten away, I think?).

That would leave us needing at least 4 wins or 3 wins & 2 draws out of our last five matches to catch them......a very tough ask, though not entirely impossible.

A Utd-Liverpool draw would do nicely, to almost put us out of reach for the Scousers.

Looking at the table as it stands I think it is a pretty foregone conclusion. Man City are highly unlikely to let a 10 point lead slip and Leicester City with the best will in the world are highly unlikely to catch Manure. Chelsea don't com into it.

I think things will be a lot clearer by the end of next week.

Mods can we lock this thread please. Still need 3 more wins to secure 4th.

5 League games to go for Manchester United.

However Manchester United have a horrendous fixture schedule, to the point I actually don't think its fair on them! (Never mind:ph34r:)

They have to play 6 games in 16 days, that is surely a first?

They have to play Leicester with just 1 day of rest after playing Leeds. where as we have 3 days rest for the same fixture, surely a big advantage?

Manchester United Fixture list:

(H)Roma

2 days rest

(H)Liverpool

3 days rest

(A)Roma

2 days rest

(A)Villa

1 day rest

(H)Leicester

3 days rest

(H)Fulham

6 days rest

(A)Wolves

Comparatively, we have 3 days to prepare for Southampton, 6 days for Newcastle, 3 Days for United, 3 days for Chelsea (Cup Final), & 6 days for Spurs.

Disclaimer we have to fit in Chelsea (League) at some point?

However 2nd is not as cut and dry as it may seem, especially if we can go to Old Trafford and win, which is possible.

I'm all in on this comment - this thread is tempting fate and I'm 'bricking it' enough as it is

I voted Manchester United but hopefully we push them far. A win against Southampton moves us two points behind them and they're playing Liverpool.

Doesn't bother me if we finish 2nd or 3rd, however. Firstly people only remember Champions but either 2nd or 3rd goes into our history books. Top 4, even top 6, and an FA Cup final is a superb season.

Never coming second we’ve not even got 4th nailed on yet

We’re 5 points behind and still have to play them, it’s not unfeasible

Utd will drop points before these games are over but so will we, Chelsea and West Ham. I think 5 points with 5 to go is too much of an ask to catch them but as long as we’re in the top 4 this will be our second greatest season ever

I've said it before and I'll say it again.

If Arsenal win the Europa League and Chelsea win the Champions League and finish outside the top 4, then 4th place won't be good enough for CL football next season. I'm sure Brendan knows this (I hope so at any rate) and will proceed on the assumption that we need to finish 3rd or 2nd. This will of course change if either Chelsea or Arsenal are kicked out of Europe over the next week or so.

We will run them close as I've said before but I think they will end up on 74-75 and we will have 72-73. Our best chance is if we win the fa Cup and Chelsea make CL final as they wi

Llanbedr field a weakened team in our penultimate match.

Man United as I hope they beat Liverpool this weekend and they're hardly going to drop points to Wolves or Fulham

We won’t average 1 point a game more than them in these last 5 probably even if we beat them
