Kelechi Iheanacho reveals how it felt to be booed by Leicester City supporters

To be fair to Iheanacho you only have to see how bad Vardy was under Puel's football as well. A confidence player like him was doomed to fail.

I can honestly say I haven’t boooed Iheanacho but I certainly gave him a few harsh looks from SK4 on Sunday when he was bloody awful against Spurs if I’m honest...

Never understood booing a player before they've even set foot on the pitch in a game.

I remember the boos for Kelechi in those Puel games and it was utterly nonsensical.

And then the crowd expected him to perform at a required level after getting that reception? Pathetic.

It made me even more glad that he went on this recent run of sensational form. He clearly believed he always knew he had the talent but its a shame fans expect world class level instantly 100% of the time. Fans in general have very little patience and it seemed Kelechi was a victim of this.

Do you lot read the match threads? The negative comments that follow every error, poor pass, poor performance, is the online equivalent of booing players. I don't know if the players read this forum but, if they do, they must feel pretty negative. Players thrive from the positivity of fans therefore they are also affected by negativity.

No way it blows my mind that people post in match threads during the games. They need to get a life and just watch the games.

I well remember a late Puel era game, and Iheanacho was being subbed on. Some of us applauded, and we were being berated by the gobshite hard lads, standing arms wide asking 'why are you applauding? '. This wasn't 20 year olds either, this was (and I'm guessing here) what looked like long time season ticket holders, who have forgotten that just because they 'own' their little piece of territory, they're still meant to behave like supporters, rather than expecting to be given what they are entitled to.

Depending on your definition of shit, this has been going on since those days. It's nothing new.

So reading this thread we should never boo an opposition player in case it motivates them, be delirious happy clappers to our own even if they are stinking the place out every week?

Just waiting for someone to suggest a neutral section where fans from both sides can mix and show respect to one another and hug when a goal goes in.

Personally I’d ban women and children, ban the over 70’s, ban sitting down and make it a cauldron no away fan or player would want to come to.
Think I’m a bit old fashioned in that respect, I’m damn sure there’s more chance of you lot getting your preference before mine.  Think more England away in the 90’s than Forest Green at home present day.

No, just don't boo our players if you want their performances to improve because it's totally counterproductive and thick as shit

Every club has idiots and we have a fair few unfortunately. I hate the whole "I pay for ticket so I can boo if I want" argument. People who think it's ok to boo their own players should just never buy a ticket again and just watch the game at home where nobody else has to listen to their nonsense! I've seen it myself a few times, Everton away a few years ago and when Ghezzal came near our fans in the middle of a game some idiot shouted "fck off Ghezzal you're shit". Dont see why adults feel the need to go to a football stadium and abuse other adults who are doing their job. The argument that they get paid well so they should just take it bugs me as well. Regardless of pay, all humans have feelings and no matter how much money you have in the bank, nobody wants to get abused whilst they are working. Giving some shit to opposion players is just banter and alot of players like Vardy thrive off it. Abusing your own players is ridiculous!

Sounds like you wanna make it a cauldron that none of our players want to come to

Fair point, neither do I but some of those performances under Puel, I understood the reaction to them but some of it was premeditated and it almost felt like some people decided to boo before they turned up.

Same thing happened to Chilly. Crowds have a collective mentality - only takes one or two to begin the bullying and, if the mood is there, others will join in.

A supporter's 'job' is to keep rallying the team - not to weaken it by isolating one of the its members by booing.

I'm not even sure it's appropriate to boo opposition players (except if they're dirty b'stards of course).

My seat is within shouting range of the Iheanacho/Ndidi box at the top of the West Stand near the TV Studio suite.

I often sit cringing and squirming knowing that family members can hear some of the rubbish coming from our anti-supporters. I've always applauded and shouted encouragement to Kelechi in an attempt to offer some sort of balance and let them know we're not all like that.

Which game was it?

I think some times the booing is as much at the sub than the player. Puel was already very unpopular by that point. We need a goal and he subs on an out of form Nacho who isn't scoring for club legend Vardy you are going to get a lot of audible discontent from the crowd. Which you wouldn't get if he had been subbed on for Mendy for example who offers zero goal threat.

I remember this period and him getting booed and it was because he was replacing Vardy. Fans were booing Kel but I think fans were mostly pissed off about subbing Vardy off.

I understand that. But booing is a blunt, indiscriminate tool, so the subtlety of what you're suggesting (if correct) would most likely get lost. Much like the booing of taking the knee, or the pointlessness of someone hooting their car horn to get specific attention.

Completely agree and I have very rarely booed my own team. I would like to say never but sometimes frustration gets the better of me. I think it is important to understand the context.

I do hope the players and manager don't read Foxes Talk.

I hope so too

But Ft is a place where we can freely express our views... we are clearly not a motivational coach for the manager and team

I’m sorry but you couldn’t have been a Leicester fan for very long if you think this a new trend !! Even at filbert st our own players use to get booed all the time. Sheff Utd at home in 1996 stick in the memory. I’ve seen people fighting in the stands at Stoke under craig levein about Jordan Stewart being booed by pretty much the whole away end it definitely isn’t a new trend.
