Just a meaningless preseason friendly in which you don't want any of your players injured in prior to the first match. Field the peripheral squad. I’m not sure the teams at the lower end of the pyramid or various other charities that benefit from the game feel that way 1

I just think after last year and the Euros the players could do without it.

The bulk of the money goes to official charity partners of the FA plus £5,000 gets given to every single club who takes part in the 1st round and above of the FA cup to donate to a local charity of that clubs choosing 3 3
Reg Vardy Posted 8 July 2021 Posted 8 July 2021 I bet the players wouldn’t turn Down the opportunity of another Wembley appearance, adds to experience and expectation….great day for live football starved supporters…..

I'll be the one shouting "Distancing f***whit, it's not over" every couple of minutes. Followed by "Oh sorry, Officer f***whit". It was like that last night. There was zero management of the concourses. Massive snaking queues of people for the bars. Chaos

I’m guessing not - so even with the FA Cup in the bag now we still actually need to win this for the domestic silverware set? We have and I knew it because winning the league meant we were no longer a pub quiz question of "which team has won the community shield without winning the league or cup". Rings a bell Brighton might have as well?
when_you're_smiling Posted 9 July 2021 Posted 9 July 2021 For those asking about the time we won. Article was written just before our 2016 appearance. https://www.theguardian.com/sport/blog/2016/aug/04/leicester-city-charity-shield-1971-forgotten-story 2
foxes_rule1978 Posted 13 July 2021 Posted 13 July 2021 Right been down since England lost, so need a lift now… looking forward to the community shield now, come on leicester. Let’s have another great season

With the squad set to return to first-team training next week, Pep Guardiola's said are already beginning to put together their starting plans for the defence of their Premier League crown for the third time since the Catalan's arrival in 2016. However, the summer tournaments in the European Championships and the Copa America will cause slight problems and selection headaches for the coaching staff, with two stars confirmed to be missing the clash with Leicester City at Wembley on August 7th. Both Ederson and Gabriel Jesus will miss the tradition season curtain-raiser against Brendan Rodgers' men, City Xtra understand, as the pair recover from their respective Copa America duties with Brazil. Their nation reached the final of the showpiece South American tournament, but fell to defeat at the final hurdle against Lionel Messi and Sergio Aguero's Argentina, courtesy of a 22nd minute Angel Di Maria strike. City Xtra understand that the Brazilian duo will join the rest of the Manchester City squad on August 8th, ahead of the Premier League opener against Tottenham on August 15th. There are expected to be similar delays for Manchester City's representatives at the European Championships, mainly the English contingent who reached the final of the tournament against Italy. This will involve John Stones, Kyle Walker, Phil Foden, and Raheem Sterling, however players do have the option to return early from their holidays should they wish - and this remains a possibility for some. Manchester City still have transfer business to complete ahead of the new season, with the focus being on Harry Kane and Jack Grealish - however both pursuits are complicated, and may still require the sale of current first-team players.

miles2lcfc Posted 18 July 2021 Posted 18 July 2021 It’s getting on now where we need to plan travel etc. Only a few weeks away. I am on a train back from London after being at Wembley for the challenge cup final yesterday. Very organised. No bottle throwing, storming the gates. Didn’t even see any one putting a flare up their backside. All very disappointing 😂 1

I’m all for friendly banter between Lester & City fans even along wembley way. I remember the charity shield game against United. There were fans on both sides being boisterous but never gotta ominous or edgy. Besides after the heat the authorities are taking after the euro final debacle they will be clamping down 200% now as they should because it’s another large televised events.

Only disorder I saw was between our fans in the concourse because a lot seemingly had never seen an escalator before and were just stopping at the top. Was like Green Street but set in a dementia nursing home. 3
