I see a team that has failed to qualify for the CL twice in a row by the skin of our teeth despite sitting in the top four for all but the last week or two of the season.

 

Whatever the reasons for that, mainly injuries and enforced formation change last year, it is also true that we only needed the slightest of improvements to get over the line.  Everyone contributed last season with one very conspicuous Ayoze Perez shaped exception.  He fell a long way short of the level of his team mates and that has cost us.   He doesn't have to be Harvey Barnes, he just needs to be half-way competent, that's all I ask and that's all we would have needed imo.

 

This is why I'm so hard on him and why I always bite, because the stakes are so high and our dysfunctional right hand side is a like a lead weight.  

 

 

 

I'm no fan of Perez at all. I don't think he's good enough to be starting for us. And he frustrates the hell out of me when watching him play. And I totally agree with your point that we've twice missed out on CL on the finest of margins. 

 

But, you can't talk about those fine margins and put them all on one player. Any number of lots of variables could be changed and we would have qualified. 

 

What about if Vardy had scored a few of the sitters he missed in the 2nd half of the season? What about if Nacho didn't miss a penalty? What about if Schmeichel didn't miss that punch?

Yes, you have a point,  Chelsea's last minute winner at Man CIty was a sickener.  They beat them three times in the space of a few weeks, although we benefited from one of those by not having to face Man City in the cup final.

 

I might seem harsh hanging it on Ayoze.  Vardy, Schmeichel, Iheanacho and anyone else you care to mention had moments that cost us but they also had many more moments that gained us points and contributed hugely to our season.  I don't see any of that with AP and that is the difference.  Rightly or wrongly, it's hard for me to shake that feeling that if we didn't have such a weak link in our starting XI we might well have cruised it.

100%. When you're looking at 1 point or 1 place then it's not so much use to look at one moment like red cards or cheap goals, becuase those moments will always happen in football, but patterns of performance over the season . For me it's the place in the 11 that Perez usually occupies that doesn't produce enough and our records of injuries that are both hampering us.

If a bid comes in for around 1 million we should take it. He is litterally one of the worse footballers I've seen us field in about 10 to 15 years. 

 

Just get rid and get Mateus Pereira in ASAP.

We can’t go another season relying on this clown. Should’ve posted this instead of his ‘look how hard I’m working in pre-season’ montage on insta.

I very highly doubt that.

 

He's ok, not better, but not a winger and certainly not one of the worse players in that time by any stretch of the imagination.

Was just about to post this, truly awful.

it’s not fair to us or more importantly him putting him at RW when he’s clearly a striker. Needs to move on to someone else for his own good
