I've always been under the impression that Birtles absolutely detests us.

 

Forest innit, although we were never direct rivals in his playing days.

 

A bit like Don Goodman on Sky Championship coverage, he always hated us. The bastard scored against us whoever he played for.

Yeah Goodman always scored against us. I remember him getting an injury time winner for West Brom in the 90/91 season. At the time it looked like that goal would send us into Division Three but it was WBA and Goodman who ended up going down. I hated him so much I wanted us to sign him just to stop him scoring against us.

There were a few like that back then who you knew would score against us. David Currie of Barnsley and Foyle of Port Vale spring to mind. And of course David Speedie. We did end up signing him as the only way we could get promoted was to neutralise him.

Thanks. I was trying to work out the pundit was. All I knew was that his first name was Gary. Spent time thinking of old strikers, first name "Gary." Gave up.

david ****ing currie, the diving ****. I can remember one game at barnsley when he was falling all over the place, in the end thee ref had a word with him it was that bad, then the very next dive less than 5 minutes later the willy puller in black gives him a penalty.

 

I did use to love that old open terrace at barnsley though. Absolutely nothing like that where we go now and it had a special feel.
