Why not put him on a 6 year contact instead of only 4 years?

Maybe because he doesn't want to be put in the same situation as Kane :dunno:

4 years works for everyone - enough value if we sell him, ties him in for a few years and gives him an out if he wants a new challenge

4 years means that after 2 years we either need to negotiate again or sell. We would not want to leave things til the last year. So to me 4 is too short.

It takes two to complete a deal and if I was Barnes I'd have done exactly the same. He probably refused to sign a longer deal as opposed to the club not offering him one.

If after 2 years we're not in the Champions League or seemingly not progressing, then I wouldn't blame him for moving on to test himself at a higher level and earning more money.

Can’t force him to sign 6 it’s obvious the lad is committing to us but saying you might need to pay me a lot more money in a few years ! Happy days for everyone only idiots like Harry Kane’s brother get their clients to sign 6 year deals 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

This lad is the real deal.

If he didn't get injured I would have put money on him playing for England in Euro 2020.

Fabulous news. Really pleased for him.

pleasing appetiser news, now for the main course please.

This window is already above what I expected this season considering the circumstances. However I still smell a suger coated sweet in the kitchen. Lets hope it doesn't get burned.

The club can’t just make him sign what we want.

Very happy to hear this. He looks even stronger, faster and more aggressive then before. Him and Ricardo coming back are going to light up our attack.

We have Ndidi on a contract until 2024...I mean, yeah, I am for signing him until 2050 if necessary, but it's not as urgent as Tielmans.

Same as Vardy then

Spare a thought for this chap:

This deal will thankfully shut up the Anfield old boys who have been desperately trying to hawk him off to Liverpool, but I bet it still won’t stop Souness and co calling him ‘Ashley’…

Why would he sign for 6 years, he'd be stupid to do so.

Say he's on 50k a week with this new contract, if he keeps progressing he could be one of the best EPL wingers in 2 years and also a regular for England, all at 25 years of age. With a 6 year deal, we can say, we're not offering you a new contract until you're 27 (doubt we would as we reward good form/players but hypothetically). As it is, he signs for 4 years now, in 2 years becomes a superstar and can demand 100k+ a week at 25 years of age.

They should make him stay forever.

It's not rocket science.

If I were in charge, I'd make sure they'd all be staying forever.

Apart from Perez.

I'd sell him to Barnsley for 200 mil.

Invest that in an even bigger stadium.

It's just common sense.
