So first place you play another europa team, second place you play a champions league drop out and then third place,  what happens? Is that out?

Play a team who finished second in the Europa Conference League. Essentially like finishing 3rd in CL and dropping down into the playoffs of the lower competition.

Good news. It is in our hands to get 1st place. Bad news. Lose to Legia and we are OUT.

The home game vs Legia next up is critical. If we win, then we are in a good position to get through. However, we would still need at least a draw in Napoli to guarantee progress (or rely on Legia to mess up against Spartak). 3rd place would be guaranteed.

If we draw, we are as good as out unless we beat Napoli (yeah right) and Legia drop points against Spartak.

Yesterday's draw is costly for our chances of getting through. If we fail to finish at least 2nd then we have failed as a club and the season is heading for a failure. This could be make or break and define how the remainder of the season pans out.

Aren't we relying on Legia to drop points at home to Spartak and us get at least a draw for us to progress if we beat them at home first?

They are on 6 points, we are on 5. If we beat them next then we move to 8 points. If they beat Spartak and we get a draw we'd need to have bettered the 1-0 margin they beat us on wouldn't we? It's a pretty horrible position for us to be in where we pretty much have to get a result in Naples and likely a win as I think Legia will beat Spartak.

It in our hand because if we win our two games they can't better our points total as we play each other.

Bare in mind Napoli win there next game a draw against us would suit both parties.

Is the playoff against a UCL dropout played over 2 legs or a one off on a neutral ground?

Tbf we’ve beaten a lot of the teams in those positions right now over two legs in our UCL run. That was with a team with fight though :teehee:

A draw only suits both parties if we beat Legia Warsaw by more than 1 nil I think?

We aren't winning at Napoli.  That has the potential to be a slaughter the way we're playing.

Pretty much. If we win 1-0 we would be level on head to head but we have the far superior goal difference after they got two batterings from Napoli. So if we draw last game, they cannot better our points total. If we beat them by more than one goal and draw with Napoli, Legia cannot overtake us.

If we beat them by 1 goal (and it's not 1-0, e.g. 2-1, 3-2 etc.), then if we draw with Napoli and Legia beat Spartak, we finish third.

So it is in our best interest to stick a few past Legia and win by 2 or 3. But we would still need at least a point in Napoli to not rely on favours from Spartak...

This group constellation is very interesting as anything is possible for any team.

It's head to head first, so if we beat them by 1-0 and draw to Napoli, they beat Moscow. It will go down to goal difference we would be +1; they are on -5

So they would have to beat Moscow 6-0.

If we beat them 2-0 we would go through on the head to head. If we beat them 3-2 for example as they would go though as head to head would be decide by most away goals.

It's not likely, but neither was winning the title in 15/16.

Most likely, they need a point to win the group, and we need a point to get second and play out a draw.

They may rest players for the final game if they beat Moscow as they have bigger fish to fry in the league currently being top of SA.

Naa, 1-0 be enough against Legia. Would then go down to goal difference. However if Legia score, has to be a two goal win

I can't see Napoli resting players even if they're through. They will want to win the group, especially seeing off an English side.

Their game after ours is Empoli at home who are midtable so I can't see them needing to rest players for that.

We've likely blown it now. Even with a win against Legia we'd need something from Napoli to be certain - we may get lucky with Spartak getting something at Legia as if we beat Legia, Spartak would still be in contention to get 3rd (if they even wanted it).

In truth though I fail to believe we're going to go far regardless of what pans out. Rodgers is just poor in Europe. It's not some unfair reputation.

I can't see in the rules that if legia score and we beat then by 1 goal, that they would finish higher by means they scored an away goal. Just says head to head then if level goal difference, so as long as we win by 1 goal, they would need to batter Moscow by 6? Does anyone have the rules of it going to away goals via head to head?

I can given they have their best chance of winning Serie A in years but have another team who keeping pace with them. A lot of Napoli fans aren’t too fussed with the EL (wel” Italian club fans are not full stop)

Napoli supporters/ultras getting some right stick for their trip to Warsaw. They chartered a plane to arrive a few hours before kick off and then a police escort from airport to stadium. Then back again. No independent travelling

Yeah, second time they’ve done it as well when playing them.

One of our lot has said the tifo for our home game v Legia should be a Warsaw city map with all the pubs we drank at dotted on it 😂

Don't understand point 3 as if point 2 is level, point 3 would have to be all the time lol, must be If there are more than 2 teams tied

Anyone encounter any Spartak fans yesterday? Popped in The Hind for a quick bottle of Red Stripe before my train and a few came in in a very good mood. Was like reverse Russian dolls though, every new Spartak fan who came in was bigger and moodier than the previous one.

I saw half a dozen on Raw Dykes Rd swigging from a bottle of JD. I blame Perestroika.
