Watching the game back on TV.....

I think it's pretty obvious that Rodger's selection for the first 45 minutes, cost us massively, fitness wise....And then his decision to bring on Maddison was just bizarre.

Not only did Napoli dominate possession first half, but they did so progressively, meaning we actually had to use a lot of energy up to keep them out.

Bertrand/Vestegaard got very little support from Barnes on the left side, and Soumare/Ndidi were completely overwhelmed by the midfield 3 of Anguissa/Ruiz/Zielinski.

After half time, we actually got into dangerous areas more often, and Bertrand/castagne actually got forward for the first time in the game, and gave us an outlet from the full backs.

Soumare/Bertrand especially linked up very very well with Barnes, and caused all kinds of problems. Including creating both the goal, the disallowed goal and Barnes's blocked shot.

The problem was, Vestegaard/Bertrand/Soumare were so knackered from being a man down on that side plus a lack of game time, that they really needed to be taken off.

Maddison was a terrible terrible choice though, as he's not physical enough to get around the pitch! KDH would have offered far more, as he's a lot more mobile, and even Choudhury for me, although I don't rate him, been a far far better choice.

Vestegaard/Bertrand/Soumare/Daka/Iheanacho looked knackered.....

And Rodgers's inability to rotate them in the league, and get them minutes, cost us massively tonight.

Rodgers got his selection wrong.

He then, after adjusting it more correctly at half-time, made last substitutions which were bad for us.

Combined with the fact we had tiring players, because he hasn't been rotating enough.

Barnsey is as bad at tracking back as Mahrez if we’re being honest.

The heart says no but I'm inclined to agree with many on here, Cags needs some bench time for his own good. Dan Amartey is more than capable to do the job.

Barnesinho and Rick on the wings (with Tim as RB). Nacho and Vards upfront, Daka to come on in the second half.

No idea about the middle whatsoever, we have so many options there... BR better not be as out of his depth as me! :sweating:

But like Mahrez in the side we had back then, he's the only attacking threat we have...I don't want Barnes tracking back anymore than he is now!

They have only played teams that I would expect us to beat (maybe draw Everton), so we should beat Brighton comfortably.  2-1 (last minute goal by Broghton owing to Cags turning off)

Rest everyone for a while, give them all 3 months off, see where we are after that.
Hopefully after the really long rest, we may not need to rest again. If not, a 6 month break, get really rested.
I’m happy to be proven wrong.

Really need a good result tomorrow. Won’t be easy as Brighton have definitely been the surprise package so far, will play high-energy football and players like Trossard and Maupay have the potential to hurt us.

On the flip side, our good record against these probably stems down to the fact that they will probably go toe to toe with us which suits us. I also don’t think we are miles away from us clicking again, I’m optimistic.

We've been dominated by every opponent we've faced except Norwich and a half against Wolves.  I'm not sure why anyone would expect us to dominate a pretty decent Brighton side.

I'm expecting a defeat..

2-1... Just haven't seen anything recently to suggest we'll turn these over.

I think we're all agreed that we have not yet hit our stride this season. Clearly injuries continue to disrupt our rhythm, principally because we haven't been able to play a settled back line. In addition, a few key players are significantly under-performing: Soyuncu, Maddison and to a lesser extent Tielemans, in particular. I also feel that we are not playing with enough pace and we are not getting our attacking players into attacking positions often enough. When we do, as we showed against Napoli, we can be lethal. I often think that this is because Rodgers is too cautious and needs to focus more on stamping our authority on the game by capitalizing on our strengths, rather than focusing excessively on trying to counter the threats posed by the opposition. I also think Rodgers must utilize his squad more effectively. He did introduce Soumare and Daka against Napoli but I still think the likes of those two and KDH have been underused in our PL games. The Brighton game is a big one. Win it and we'll have had a solid start, lose and the pressure will really begin to mount.

You might be best to start a new thread, given that time is a bit tight.

Make sure the thread title makes your situation clear. Fingers crossed it goes ok for you.

Starting with no creativity in midfield the tatic seemed to be to play and keep the ball in our own 3rd and then bring on a creative midfielder who is out of form to hold onto a lead - bizarre.

Could do with a win really to keep top 6 in sight. Problem is I can’t see us keeping a clean sheet at the moment

Neither can Soyuncu 🙄
