Grounds to sue surely! Putting one of our best defenders out for most of the season in a friendly thus having a knock on effect. We could stand to lose millions by the amount of league positions it will cost us.

Walshy's made himself judge Judy and executioner.

You cant get into a boxing ring and then cry because you got punched.

But we didn’t climb into a boxing ring, we wanted to play a game of football.

No but he did step on to a football pitch where people have known to have their leg broken it's part and parcel of the game.

I'm not keen to sue Villareal ...

but I would bring back a certain player if it we get them when they drop into the EL knockouts.

Stop to talk bullshit.

Take care of it on the pitch.

When you step into a boxing ring being punched is the bare minimum of what you'd expect. It's completely incomparable to this.

When you step onto a football pitch, being able to walk off of it at the end of a game is a pretty reasonable expectation, wouldn't you say? Not least of all when its a pre-season friendly with literally nothing riding on it. Having your leg broken is not part and parcel of the game - excessive force and serious foul play are explicitly outlawed by the rules of the game ffs. Using your analogy it's more like a boxer punching his opponent in the back of the head whilst he's already down on the mat. Very much something you would not expect to happen in any reasonable setting.

There's no way we could sue Villareal for it - it'd set a precedent which would genuinely ruin football - but we have every right to be furious with them/the player for how they've had such a drastic negative impact on how our season has started.

It was a challenge tho not a high boot off the ground could of happened to anyone saying it was like rabbit punching someone already knocked out is ridiculous lol but yeah walking off the pitch a reasonable expectation but there is also a chance you could be injured in mutiple ways in any sport or contact sport.

Potentially career ending tackles should NEVER be accepted as’  part and parcel’of  the game.

Serious Liverpool-like statement. No thanks

There are going to be some seriously bonkers arguments on here if we lose to Crystal Palace. The Villarreal player was stupid but these things have always happened in football. Wesley has demonstrated an excellent attitude and he will be back pretty soon I suspect.

or, and here’s a novel idea… we could actually punish tackles like it  so we at least give a binary response as to their acceptability

That would establish a precedent which could easily swing back the other way.

It wasn't Villarreal that crocked Wes - it was one of their players, and there's nothing in any contract that has a specific clause penalising reckless play. Now, if he'd managed to smuggle a pistol onto the pitch and used it, that would be a police matter...

Haaland didn't sue Keane, did he, and that was as blatantly intentional as any foul I've seen so what chance Leicester or Wes doing it?

I still maintain it wasn't even that bad a tackle, the bloke even won the ball. Not great but I've seen plenty worse, Perez's accidental one on Lanzini looks tonnes worse and Lanzini has been fortunate to come out of it alright.

If Fofana doesn't step across to block off the Villareal player, I'm sure he doesn't get injured. Just unfortunate that he was expecting a shoulder barge but the guy has slid in round the side from the back.

Can't blame the bloke for trying to get a bit of man and ball after having his achilles scraped a few moments before.

The most disappointing was the lack of empathy from Villareal and the player, that was tonnes worse than the challenge itself for me.
