I haven’t seen this discussed on here but there’s a little bit of an issue heading our way.

Theres no arguing that we have started poorly, it’s going to take a big change to get us back to our best. We are also contending with a larger season due to EL.

Now something that many haven’t thought about (other than very savy fpl managers) is that come Christmas we are going to lose players to the afcon.

This isn’t ideal for any club but when you have large amounts of fixtures and bad form it’s truly the last thing you need.

we have just lost Ndidi until December, but in reality we might have to add another 6 weeks as he leaves for the tournament.

We lose Kel, who has  been saving us on so many occasions over the last year and we will also be losing big Dan. Who is currently our last bit of cb cover. (Unless magically benkovic is given a go)

With the potential that we lose youri in January as well, this season could genuinely turn into a disaster.

im pretty sure Zambia didn’t qualify so I guess that’s a positive.

For those that like betting, lay bets on Liverpool because if they lose salah and mane for 6 weeks their title charge will take a huuge hit.

I'm not sure Ndidi is out for 6 weeks, is he? I thought it was more like 3/4.

Would possibly be back for Leeds away I think

I share your concern but you’ve not recognised the flip side. By January, we will most likely have Evans and Justin back. Further to this, you’d hope that Fofana will not be a million miles away and players who had nasty injuries such as Ricardo and Barnes will be back at full fitness.

You are right that the AFCON will arrive at a pretty inconvenient time for us, however, our squad will look pretty different by Christmas so i highly doubt that our squad will be anymore depleted than it currently is.

I'm hoping by January that Daka is integrated and got a few goals under his belt, Soumare has shown he can cover at DCM, if not then we will likely have to sign one. Defensively we ought to be in a better shape then too.

It's not great though is it, this season is a potential shit show, certainly in the league. If we can stumble through and qualify to the knockout stages of the EL and/or navigate the early rounds of the FA Cup then when the lads get back from AFCON we'll not have been impacted on those competitions too much and may still have something to play for in what we want to achieve.

Afcon should not be allowed during epl season

Because all of world football should revolve around our timetable??

It's January isn't it, ending first week of Feb?

Just checked, 9th Jan to 6th Feb.

So our players will miss FA Cup first round, Burnley away, Brighton home, 2nd round of FA Cup and potentially Liverpool away...

Liverpool away without salah and mane please :trumpet: But knowing us it will be a Ghana- Nigeria final and Salah and Mane's first game back
