"genuine pace" is one that always irks me more than it should. As opposed to what? Fake pace?

Another one is "he's got everything... strength, pace, power..." as if strength, pace and power are everything a player needs?

...it is a gimme that he has the skillset as well as these extra attributes which will help to sustain his undoubted skills!!!

One or two of these uttering are a lazy way of speaking but not in anyway irked by them.

One that winds me up when a player smashes it over the bar:

"He's almost hit that too well if anything"

...well he didn't did he because if he'd hit it well it would have been a goal but it wasn't so clearly he didn't hit it 'too well'. Like being able to blast the ball inaccurately is a real skill.

Any reference to the concept of a channel on a football pitch. I keep expecting to see the players falling into a water filled ditch. Jenas is one of the worst culprits.

''Grass coach'', which I heard for the 1st time yesterday on Radio 5 when they were discussing Solskiar, or however you spell his name. A ''grass coach'' is apparently a manager who spends a lot of his working life participating in the training sessions with the squad alongside his other ''grass coaches''. It's very new so it's not a cliche yet but it soon will be.

"He is human after all."

When Messi/Ronaldo make a mistake.

They've both made hundreds of mistakes over the past 15+ years. Those just don't make the highlight reels for obvious reasons.

Saying, "he is human after all" implies that there is serious, widespread debate over whether or not they are robots/aliens.

Your Man Uniteds, Your Chelseas, Your Liverpools

This but it's even more infuriating when it's a player "Your Harry Kanes of this world"

Well commentators refer to things as being delicious. “That cross was delicious” you didn’t eat the ****ing thing did you!

Ooh an absolutely delish comment, this.
