Christmas Dinner - Scheduled for the 25th December

Okay, it’s our turn to cook this year. 
 

 

12 of us in total of various ages.
 

What is everyone having on their Christmas dinner menu? I need some inspiration.
 

I’m thinking:

 

Soup or Prawn Cocktail starter.

 

Turkey

Roast Potatoes

Stuffing - Sage / Onion and Sausage

Roast Parsnips

Pigs in blankets

Turkey Gravey

Cranberry Sauce

Carrots
Brussel sprouts

Peas


Christmas Pudding

Trifle 

Ice Cream

Meringue

Cheese Board

 

Various wines!

Pretty much the same as I’d go for.Someone did Sea Bass as a starter for me a few years back.Can’t remember what with but it was delicious.

Yorkies needed every time, even a little mid week roast deserves them so at Christmas time it's non negotiable in this house. 

 

As is Prawn Cocktail as a starter with fresh made bread, not much better imo. 

 

Full on cheese board to finish the day as nobody here likes Christmas Pudding or has that much a of sweet tooth for desert.

I’m undecided on Yorkshire Puddings

Very similar to you, but without any peas and definitely with yorkshire puddings! We also have cauliflower cheese. 

 

I also do a gammon joint, soaked overnight in cider, then covered in cloves and baked in the oven. 

 

I make my stuffing using a shop bought packet of chestnut and cranberry stuffing mix, and mix it with a packet of sausage meat, a packet of streaky bacon chopped up, and a chopped onion. In fact I make two, and we have the second one on boxing day with the left over turkey and gammon in bake at home bread rolls or baguettes with loads of cranberry sauce.

I do a cauliflower and broccoli cheese.

 

Think I’ll do the carrots and parsnips together this time. Just go for honey glazed or something.

 

I usually do sprouts with chestnuts and bacon, but the missus wants me to leave the chestnuts out this year and go extra-garlicky.

Yes yorkies are a bit controversial! But I do them purely because everyone loves them, so why not? :)

This year I am cooking for 10 and have my partners family coming over. Seems they have prawn cocktail for starter but I never have done a starter before on Christmas Day. How do you make and eat this whilst everything else is cooking? I won’t have time so am going to do canapés for when people arrive. Will do prawn cocktail lettuce cups and then a couple of others that I haven’t decided on yet.

To be honest, prawn cocktail is pretty easy to do while everything else is in the oven, although I've not made it for ages! You can make the sauce the day before so it will only take a few minutes to put together, then you can serve it about half an hour before you're ready for dinner, giving you time to eat it.

Yeah more the eating side I was thinking of with regards time. Think I’ll do the canopies so they can eat while I’m cooking. I bloody love Christmas dinner.

You and me both! For pudding I usually do a fruit pavlova, pretty light but full of creamy, fruity lusciousness :wub:
