Yeah, it's all well and good us saying we're only x amount of points off top 6 etc but cutting that gap and then keeping up with it requires more than a couple of good results. We haven't won more than 2 league games on the spin since February I don't think? But really we need to start averaging 2 points a game for a good chunk of games to really put ourselves back in the mix.

We need to have a good run at some point. The average for 6th since we have been back in the PL is around 64 pts.

To get 64 pts, we would need around 1.83 pts per game from here compared to our current form of 1.38 pts, which would only get us approximately 52 points.

It is not a massive ask just yet.

I agree the table is wide open, considering we all think we have started poorly, string 3 or 4 results together and we are back in battle for top 6th-4th.

Regrettably we can’t play Watford every week… love the optimism but the Watford result could’ve easily gone the other way.

Outside the top three  I think it's the same for most teams. Compared with others though, we at least have Vardy, Iheanacho, Daka and Tielemans when fit who can conjure up a goal fairly regularly which makes a difference (when playing appropriate tactics). I sooner attempt to score 7 goals and concede 3, even if we occasionally lose, than continue in vain to try and maintain possession and control.

Don't do it to yourself :)

You are so right

I keep looking at the table and thinking a win and we enter the Christmas period as genuine top 6 contenders again. This bloody club and the hope!

Seriously think that we should start this game on the front foot and really go at it hammer-and-nails. If we did manage an early goal (or, even better, two) it will inevitably put the thought into the Saints players' minds: ".....here we go again...." which in turn would lead to a curtailling of attacking intent, in order to focus on not conceding more!

Vardy and Perez to start (just to stir up those bad memories!!) :D

You could say that about most games in the PL. Other than our games against Chelsea and West Ham, most of our games could have gone one way or another.

If I may, this is a schoolboy error! ‘Hope’ indeed.

Try my tactic.

I look at the table and think seeing as we’ll probably lose, that gap between us and the bottom three might soon start to get worryingly small. Then when it all goes disastrously wrong, it’s no worse than I expected. And on those rare occasions that it doesn’t all go disastrously wrong, it’s a delightful surprise!

A lot of psycho-analysis going on in here. If you listen to the Saints players after the season we smashed them they all seem to think the score was settled when they beat us at our place. Don’t get wrapped up in previous dealings, this is as slippery a banana skin as any!

Yeah for sure, I don't like this brutal run from now until January and then another run of games without the majority of our African players though. By February it could be way too late to mount a top 6 challenge.

There are only three teams that are clearly better than everybody else , so predictions are not easy.  We do carry a greater goal threat so we can outscore them. I will be surprised if we don't concede however.

Certainly the one at Brighton! Still seething about those disallowed goals. Recorded as a loss; should've been a win. Makes a big difference to relative league positions.

...a player makes one crucial error, and now he has become a liability!!!

Can we just move away from this type of rhetoric, we all know what an asset he is to our team.

Blimey - I see the sense of humor by-pass operation went well for you.....

It's about to stay close enough to be in with a shout with 5-10 games to go. We have struggled when we are chased.

Maybe being the chaser could suit us better, with less pressure.

With the top 3 already looking sorted, I think it is down to Us, West Ham, Spurs, Arsenal, Wolves, Man U and maybe Villa regarding 4th-6th.

It is about getting our defence right. Playing average, we are still the 6th highest scorers in the league but have the 4th worse defence.

If we can tighten up, we can soon push up the table.

Unchanged apparently

Don’t hate it, would be good to build some consistency. Just don’t want any injuries or players to suffer burnout again

I am going for the 36th minute for Wilf's penalty 'give-away'.

I'm reading this thread and literally 1 second before I read this I thought, you can guarantee Ndidi gives a pen away at some point.

Having supported since the Sixties I can only admire and condone your pessimism 🙄
