Last time I went to St Mary’s we won 9 0 and the time before that we won 4 1 so I’ve got a good feeling about this trip.

same for me!!

I'm afraid I'd have Iheanacho for Lookman every day of the week as he offers so much more. Apart from a few moments of bursting into life and a couple of good passes in the second half again Watford, Lookman was lightweight and hugely insignificant. He can skip past 2 players and lose it to a third or, produce a number of clever little flick ons which look good, but don't actually find one of his own players.

Iheanacho is far stronger, can hold the ball up well and is a proven goalscorer. Some may point to the lack of wing play but I honestly don't believe that you have to be symmetrical and have two. Castagne can occasionally provide a bit on the right when able because as have a non productive Lookman or even Perez out there,  you may as well field Iheanacho or even Daka who both offer a genuine threat to the opposition or at least keep them busy.

I bloody hope he plays Nacho as he's in my Fantasy Team...

I agree that he should be playing more with this ridiculous fixture list in December. 10 games in 31 days and with 6 out of the next 8 away from home! I am guessing Brendan will either play Vardy on Wednesday (Saints) or Sunday (Villa) but definitely not in both games.

I do wonder whether Kelechi ran over Brendan's cat sometimes...or he simply doesn't fit into the sacred 4-2-3-1

Looking at our allocation and seats still available about 2,300 if my maths is correct. That is pretty good for a Wednesday in December.

We have sold a fair few these past few days. Good backing for a Wednesday night in December

Tempted not to rotate much at all yet, although we do have that massive game away at Napoli so something probably has to give vs Villa in preparation.

With Southampton tending to play 4-4-2 I'd go KDH in for Soumare as the only change. Vardy off after 60 mins and then Daka or Iheanacho to start vs Villa.

...he cannot fit into 4-2-3-1, with Maddison coming into form, playing  Nacho is not going to happen!!!

Nacho has limitations we all know about. He is unable to play the lone striker role, so that position in the team is ruled out.

He has a tendency to drop to find the ball, taking up the space of the #10, it makes us unbalanced.

He cannot be used wide, at best playing in the "half spaces" which is a shoehorning option and we are not used to a speculative setup we have little history in playing.

The only option is going back to a back three, we could then incorporate him in a front two, it worked last season but it does require adjustment of our personnel to take on roles that they have a tendency to struggle with.

Good to see the club thought highly of him to award him the new contract. But the salary he is on is preventing him pushing for new horizons. He gives us needed depth but for his sake he should want more.

I give you Villa away, 2 years ago.

Schmeichel

Ricardo

Evans

Cags

Chilwell

Wilf

Praet

Youri

Madders

Kels

Vards

Defence sound. midfield packed. Movement up front. Everything we haven't got at the moment.. just replicate that as close as possible.

Schmeichel

Castagne

Evans

Cags

Thomas

Wilf

Kdh

Bouba/hamza/Albrighton (take your pick)

Kels

Vards

I'd play that all day long. Except I'd have, in an ideal world,.Praet and Mendy as midfield cover ahead of bouba, kdh and hamza

...looking a man short in the second list, but would result in Vardy or Nacho playing out of position!!!

The first list would be a 4-4-2 diamond with the second list seemingly to be 4-3-3.

Yup, sorry. Madders too in that midfield diamond

Southampton are an odd bunch. Sometimes they look alright, other times they look complete doggo.

Confident we will win this one, I think we will go on a bit of a run now.

Believing what? Genuine question.

Believing we still have a team that is capable of consistently winning football matches, I’ve not enjoyed watching for a while and if we can win these next 2 games it would personally add a bit of excitement for me regarding the rest of the season, is that ok for you mate?

I wasn’t having a go, just curious what people’s hopes for the season would be at this stage.

personally I don’t think we’ve got  a shot for top 4 this year, but I’m still clinging on for 7th or above.

...the way this league is going, you really cannot rule anything out!!!

We have had a poor season so far and yet still in touching distance, I  still see this is a very rich and "flakey" League.

I agree top 4 is a long shot but you never know, win these next 2 and we’re back in the mix with something to hope for, I’d happily take europa again after the start we’ve had. Think we’ll know after the next 2 if we’ve actually turned a corner.

It’s the 93rd minute, Luke Thomas and evans have gone off injured. We’ve reverted to a back 5 after getting dominated by Nathan Redmond. We counter quickly and win a corner. Bertrand whips in a beauty and vestergarde jumps 12 ft in the air to head home.

limbs, limbs, limbs

I'd stick Perez in for one game and tell Madders he has the next 2 games after that.

We can always bring Madders on after an hour if we need a goal, but Perez loves the south coast. Reminds him of home, I expect.
