As I said, I don't disagree. I'd personally say our batting has been worse than our bowling though, though neither has been anywhere near good enough.

Australia haven't just beaten us twice in 2nd gear, they've thrashed us twice in 2nd gear..

For his first tour in Australia, I think Robinson has done alright. It's a harsh learning arena out there. The rest haven't been great, as you say

Robinson has to be persevered with. He looked a bit broken in that last test for me. Very personal viewpoint probably as it was just my perception on body language etc. Don't like to criticise Root and I am in two minds because he is right to bo ll ock the whole side and they are all big boys, but Robinson needs backing. I'd probably pick him for the next test; but I would also probably be looking for a way to play Wood. It feels a bit like rearranging deckchairs to be honest.

Robinson's body language didn't look great, granted. He's a young man though, not used to seeing his side dominated in 90 degree heat, like the other bowlers who played. I think it may just have been disappointment, in the main.

I do agree that Root is allowed to call out any part of the team, it's something he's probably not done enough, but it's also a very fine line. Aussie tours are notoriously difficult for England, he can't afford to misjudge it and have any bowlers too pissed off. I sort of agree with you saying the bowlers should all grow a pair, but they bail out the batsmen usually, rather than the other way around.

This bowling too short lark hasn't just appeared under the new coach though, it's been going on for a long time. When they pitched up on Saturday morning, they caused (all) of the Aussie batsmen problems, so they are all capable on these pitches.

Wood is unfortunately just too fragile to play all the time.

Robinson doesn't have much international experience but he isn't young (although compared to Anderson and Broad I guess) I like him though, looks like he needs to work on his fitness in general. The whole Root criticising the bowlers is weird though, speaks more about him as a captain than it does them surely? If he thinks they aren't sticking to a plan, have a word, if he thinks a plan isn't working then change it up. Ponting has said as much, what's he doing as captain if he can't influence bowlers to follow instructions.

Well seems like the coach is happy with the team.

Must just be bad luck.

Saying you picked the right team when you had Malan, Root and the one of your seam bowlers bowling 35 overs of spin between them over two inns :appl:

The guy is fast becoming a joke.

Root talked about the players not learning from past mistakes, maybe he should levy that claim against Silverwood too.

Can't see the ECB getting rid of him, does anyone have an idea of the term of his contract.

The ECB is fighting bigger fires at the moment, I think.

You'd hope the ECB is a big enough organisation to be able to deal with more than one thing at once

There you go with that 'hope' again.

I follow England and Leicestershire so forgive me for my cynicism here.

Has anyone had much hope for County over the past decade? Rinse and repeat for them isn't it

Just rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic really...

At least Burns is out so I don't have to watch he's dodgy footwork any more.

I'd have given Pope another go but he's only option if you want to bring Bairstow in as a batsmen.

Hameed is lucky Burns has been shite too.

I'd of kept Burns in over Hameed and if he doesn't have a decent remainder of the tour then bin him off. Crawley other than that double hundred has been exceptionally poor, but based on how he performs here I'd probably go with him and Hameed against the West Indies unless we use some common sense and recall Sam Robson.

Additionally I'd give Livingstone a taste of test cricket against the West Indies and if he seems capable give him a further chance in the summer.

Yes seems to be a last throw of the dice feel and making changes as a reaction to the public pressure.

By the looks of it

Quite like the look of that team. Pope's been a major disappointment for me. The way he seems to get himself out is just horrible. It's supposed to be a flat wicket, so hopefully we can get 400+.

I know this might be blasphemy on here but Marnus is kinda likeable really isn't he. Seems like a lovely guy.

If you're allowed to like any aussie it's got to be him

Probably because he's not Australian 😂. Joking aside I think most of this Australian side are all probably decent people off the pitch
