I get my hopes up the selectors might finally have had enough and use some common sense moving forwards after this. However I then remember this is the same Country that never gave James Hildreth a game, different staff  but still seems to be the same jobs for the boys mindset.

Root should give up the captaincy (or have it taken off him) but he must be struggling to control his annoyance at his batting line-up. The bloke is barely off the field at the moment.

 

Being captain isn't easy, it is very demanding but he gets next to no time to sit and watch the game play out as he's in just after we start the innings.

Some really disappointing batting. Senior players like Root, Stokes and Butler just threw their wickets away. If the cricket didn't put you to sleep, the commentators could. Pretty dreadful all round.

Captain is only as good as his players..

Root makes some poor tactical decisions as Captain, but unless you have capable batsmen you're hands are tied. There is no belief in this side at all, everyone is expecting to get out. Need to show a bit of anger too, get wound up on the field, show a bit of aggression. There was more needle against India than against the Aussies, however it's hard when you know you are rubbish.

Good batsman poor captain.

 

He's tactical inept, far to quick to go on the defensive in the field, shows no clever captaincy to buy a wicket.  

 

Whether that's due to not having the coaching back up is hard to say.

 

Is rinse and repeat, we are often ill prepared, often pick an unbalanced side.

We bowl ourselves into a good position, then throw it away. How we can't even throw a good innings together is ridiculous. 

Hameed never looked settled from the off, at least Crawley looked a bit confident. Buttler has been poor again.

Pathetic all round, says a lot when I haven’t watched a single moment this year, just pointless ruining your day/life to watch them surrender easily again and again. 
 

I do think the coaching side or the captain needs to change, maybe even both.

The expecting to get out bit is spot on, read an interview with James Hildreth after mentioning him earlier on, where he says he always tried to be positive rather than have a survivalist mindset.
