Realistically, what would you do with this squad during the next 12 months?

• Serious re-investment in defence

• Replacement for Kasper*

• Tie down/ replace Tielemans

• Either sign Lookman or recruit winger

*That’s going off if Kasper looks for a move, after all he has stated at looking at a new challenge.

Lookman has shown touches but he’s not the standard we should be after. Squad player yes but we need better to improve our starting eleven.

The issues affecting this team won't be solved in one summer or one window. It could take 2 or 3. As it happens I don't think those issues include Rodgers himself but he needs to be looking at the likes of Kolo Toure and wondering exactly what he's doing to make this defence any better. If he's not then there's any number of ex-Prem defenders he could bring in to do the job. We're still capable of playing fast, attacking football. Not many can cut City open 3 times in a few minutes like we did on Sunday. But it's pointless if we don't sort ourselves out at the other end.

We missed a chance this summer. In hindsight  we could have let a couple go. The best sides don't dwell on trophies, they re-assess and re-assemble their sides. Wenger did away with the Arsenal defence after their first title and over 2 or 3 seasons re-assembled them into the invincibles side. Ferguson did the same when he sold off Ince, Kanchelskis and a couple of others from that title side. He realised he had a group of kids who could take their places and left all the pundits with egg on their faces. You rebuild from a position of strength.

We probably could have let Maddison and/or Tielemans go and started the rebuild from there. Mendy & Benkovic too. Right now I'd let those two go in January, if not Mendy then Hamza.

But the recruitment has to be spot on. We have to get back to finding bargains and developing them and only buying from the Premier League if they're a genuine improvement on what we have not just because they have "experience".

Get a new keeper for next season, get a Youri replacement, I’d be happy with Ward prowse new right winger and a Center back.

Good shout. We scouted St Marys and manage to miss their best player.

Get Tarkowski in, sell Youri whilst he still carries a good fee.
If Leeds go down, try for Phillips and Raphinha in the summer.

I’d take him if he was available and cheap but I agree that we should be looking at a better alternative. That being said he still would be a useful player even if it was a bit part role.

I read that Raphinha has agreed to join Bayern. That could be a load of bollocks mind.

Oh really, might be punching their then.

Like I said, could be a load of bollocks but I can see him moving to a top tier side because he’s shit hot.

Realistically with so many deals expiring within the next 18 months you’d want to convince the players their future is here or more cynically tie them down for resale value at least.

Feels like so many players at the minute are off the boil and it could be down to them focusing on their next move rather than their long term future here.

Yeah very true, I think he would cost a pretty penny too.

You wouldn’t get much change out of £50m

I think Kasper stays until it’s blatantly obvious he’s a hindrance. Now isn’t that time, but is maybe the start of it. I’d also worry that with Tielemans going, he’s a rare authoritative figure within the squad.

A centre back is easy to want, and I’d be happy with someone like a Botman or a player that suits our usual activity. But in theory Fofana, Soyuncu and Evans is fine for the next 12-18 months.

Completely disagree. Evans' injuries are a huge problem for us and Soyuncu should be sold if we can get a decent bid, he's been terrible for a while. We desperately need at least 1 new centre back

Should be signing lookman as a backup to Barnes and singing a real rw

IF, as has been put on here, Brendan is moving on in the summer (sure I've read this) could a new manager get better performances from Cags?

People are writing him off, and he has been a liability, but he was world class not ever so long ago.

Also, as been said, would bringing in a new defensive expert/coach have his input taken on board by Brendan?

This isn't a Brendan out comment as I'd love things to work out for him here and stay for the long term, but our defence has been a worry to everyone for so long now and nothing seems to have changed.

It's been said by many about a plan B which we don't seem to have even before the horrific injury list which we currently have

Would a new expert be listened to, or would they be seen to be undermining the boss and his football philosophy?

I’d be happy with that. We could get better than Lookman whilst he would be a great option from the bench.

In my opinion this squad still has the quality to achieve great things if coached well and if players can be better protected from the non-contact injuries, the last 2 seasons have shown we can achieve top 5 finishes, therefore do we.really need this complete overhaul which will cost money we clearly don’t have.

controversial I know, but for the betterment off the club overall could it be cheaper to remove & replace Rodgers with someone who can regroup what is clearly a talented squad and perform minor surgery in the transfer market.

in all honestly at this current time I wouldn’t trust Rodgers with rebuilding this squad and I ain’t convinced he will be around long term either.

  • Anyone that doesn't want to be here or won't sign a new contract, sell them.
  • Anyone that isn't performing to a standard we expect, loan them out or sell them.
  • New medical team. Working on players who are injured and preventing injury.
  • New goalkeeper. Schmeichel has been a good servant but we need a taller, commanding keeper.
  • Set piece coaches to improve defensive weaknesses. No more Zonal marking. Start again.
  • Creating an identity which is LOUD and CLEAR for the players to believe in, a philosophy and fundamental way of playing.
  • We don't expect to win every game but we play. But we expect 100% effort. Fast build up, attacking football. High work rate and aggressive defending.

Absolutely. By playing to his and the rest of the players we have strengths you will see a much better player(s).

It's no surprise Cags (and the rest of the team - but Cags shone, stepped up and looked vastly improved) in the Legia and Watford games, we played forward thinking football, didn't play possession for possession sake and delude ourselves thinking we 'controlled the game' by it, we actually used the possession in a positive way, advantage, actually controlling the game, albeit against two poor teams but as I said in the post match threads that in itself was a huge positive because normally its the excuse of 'we can't break those type of teams down'.

As for Plan B, Plan B is in Rodgers' philosophy, you do Plan A better.

Generally what i've put in this post goes for the rest of the team, as is very realistic of what I would do (or what i'd like to see) with this squad in next 12 months.

Alot of the rests on whether Rodgers continues here one way or the other. Although I have fears the instruction and brief from above would still be to play this disgusting way whoever comes in next. :(

Force them to Read Foxestalk, twice every week..

Going by some of Brendan's muddled tactics, I think he already does. The cross section of opinions on here would cause anyone confusion to be fair to the man.
