Rodgers specifically mentioned Hamza in his after match comments.  If Rodgers is thinking of changing  our defensive tactics to "old school" then there is a place for him in our squad. We broke up Liverpool's play very effectively in the first half of that match.

Hamza, Hamza Hamza!! I’ve been wanting this guy to succeed for what feels like an eternity!

Defensively he’s sound but I think he doubts his ability to progress with the ball and he’ll struggle to become more than a bit part player unless he can get this belief.

Really want him to just go for it! If he effs up at least he can say he went for it.

When say 'old school' do you mean stop letting in goals from set pieces?

What I mean is close marking and breaking down opposition play outside the box, Hamza, KDH and Soumaré did that very well.

KDH and Maddison were always looking to transition the play quickly from our half. It was the best midfield performance for a long time.

He’s not an awful payer and I prefer him to Mendy but long term he’s just not at our level. I think we could get a better player than both Choudhury and Mendy for probably 1/4 of their wages (combined).

They’re probably on £70k pw minimum between them & whatever fee we got (£10-15m) would definitely allow us to sign an upgrade.

I suppose a part of me is just dead chuffed to see 3 academy players in a game where we beat the reigning champions and keep a clean sheet.

I'd like to see him stay but I also recognise he's probably limited. Can't fault his effort the other night though and he definitely did a job defensively.

I’m more in the: “wanting him to succeed” rather than: “thinking he will succeed” camp.

I thought for a while that he doesn’t know what sort of midfielder he wants to be. If he’s to be a CDM he needs to improve his passing. If he’s box to box then he needs to get better positionally.

The emergence of KDH has perhaps put him further down the pecking order. Personally I’d even contend that Mendy offers more, but Rodgers clearly disagrees in terms of a match day squad. So he currently comes in after Tilly, KDH, Ndidi and Soumare.

Useful back up, but I’d rather we found better. He’d have been even further away from the side if Soumare had hit the ground running

Cant argue with any of this, but if he leaves, we still have to replace him, and assuming Ndidi doesn't go anywhere his replacement would be a squad player also

so you reckon we can get a better player for 17.5k per week?

He’s not in the team to pass the ball around and create chances. He’s a destroyer and in that respect, he’ll always perform quite well. just don’t ask him to go box to box, that isn’t his strength.

We’ll See more of him over the next month, whilst AFCON is on. Now is his chance to grab the spot and prove a lot of people wrong.

Like Demi Gray, loads of potential and never filled it.

I think he's been criminally underused.

He's at his best shuttling across filling in for attacking full backs ajd/or (as he did on Tuesday) doubling up with the full back. Last 3 games I recall him in were Tuesday, palace and prior to that a classy display away at Fulham

Limited. But great engine. He'd always make a PL squad of mine....a squad can't all be leite players and I live the reliable likes of Big Dan, Hamza, Albrighton and even Perez (albeit a costly squad member) as part of a tight squad

He seems like a good lad but I just don't think he's at our level.

I think the game the other night summed him up perfectly. He had a good game. Done what he does best and put himself about, covered Catagne well and doubled up but once he was actually there, he seemed to doubt himself, didn't know whether to get close or hold his position and IIRC he was beaten rather easily by their LB who waltzed past him a couple of times.

Don't want to make it seem like I'm giving the boy a hard time as like I said, I think on the whole he played well enough but the same gaps in his game where still there on Tuesday night, they were just masked by a great team performance and famous win.

I said at minimum but roughly, yeah. A player’s ability isn’t that strongly correlated with their wages. We’ll be paying Bertrand a wedge to be a sack of shit.

Thought he did well against Liverpool. Was very disciplined in his role. He’s the type of player who needs to be worked into the side for a specific task, of that can be done then he could prove an asset. But there’s are better players in his position that can to a duel role, for example, N’didi.

I think he’s a decent player. Defensively very sound and knows his role. Isn’t afraid to put his foot in and is reasonably strong but his ability on the ball is limited.

A squad player at best. I wouldn’t mind him sticking around for longer tbh.

Yes. I thought he was far more disciplined than in the past. I didn't see him flying into reckless challenges but certainly made himself a nuisance. I like the energy he brings to our game but he's limited in an attacking sense.
