Our no2 was basically best player on pitch yesterday. Unless mads is being sold this window I just don’t see it. Free up a squad space to sign another keeper 😂

AjcW Posted 27 January 2025 Posted 27 January 2025 Lets be honest, a half season loan for someone who is probably missing home/his family isn't the worst idea, no matter his injury record. Ruud wants someone to add competition on the left (essentially shove a rocket up Stephy... as he's had zero competition since he joined).... this does that doesn't it?
80footgiraffe Posted 27 January 2025 Posted 27 January 2025 Loved Oxlade Chamberlain since the Southampton days. Not a very good footballer but a very weird name. Get. Him. In.

I get your point, but I think we should be looking at someone to come in as a winger who can improve the starting 11, not challenging our current wingers. We all know if he is the option we are looking at, it is the definition of a lets have a gamble and hope it sticks signing after having a whole month to sort this out. 1

I think given it's clear that we've ****ed it.... the options could be worse than the Ox 1

'Oh-oh, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain...'
kingfox Posted 27 January 2025 Posted 27 January 2025 Isn’t Oxlade-Chamberlain more of a central midfielder nowadays 🤔
RedSoxUK Posted 27 January 2025 Posted 27 January 2025 Can we flog Besiktas Daka or something in return
Realist Guy In The Room Posted 27 January 2025 Posted 27 January 2025 Its not inspiring but it is the type of signing that could result in the gaining of some vital points. If we stayed up by a point for instance, the Ayew equaliser at Ipswich makes his signing worth it. It’s a bit of a moneyball approach but at this stage is probably realistic. We can’t attract a winger that will walk into the starting line up and rack up goals and assists immediately. 1
brookfox Posted 27 January 2025 Posted 27 January 2025 If the Ox is the answer, I assume the questions is "who can we sign with a long name to boost commercial revenue on kit sales?". 1

Jazzy_Jeff Posted 27 January 2025 Posted 27 January 2025 Always rated the Ox. IF he can stay fit, he would be a great loan for the remainder of the season.

Appreciate you're the "Realist", but Oxlade-Chamberlain isn't starting for Besiktas, or making much of an impact. He's played about half their games, and mostly been on the bench for them—either coming on around the 70th minute mark, or coming off before the 60th minute when he has occasionally started. He's contributed one goal so far this season for them. No assists. I always liked him as a player, but unfortunately I think injuries have taken their toll. He's not someone who could help us aside from being "another body". We need improvements on, or at bare minimum competition for our existing wingers. Edited 27 January 2025 by CloudFox 3

Guest Mickyblueeyes Posted 27 January 2025 Posted 27 January 2025 Signing "experience" is important, including PL experience. As some said earlier, Nige use to make the experience signing every season. Edworthy, Taylor-Fletcher, Phillips, Noby Solano etc. In the PL he added Upson and Cambiasso (not neccessarily PL experience). The thing is, these added to the squad. Some did even better and became regulars (Solano) but mostly to compliment a good squad. You very rarely get a Cambiasso to fit the bill. We need players right now to improve the 11. I dont think Ox does that. And with injuries, we risk signing him and losing him. I remember him being a good player but I am not entirely sure he is what we need. We need 2/3 before the deadline and have to smart with the approach.

He was pretty good for them last season, two month injury aside. I actually think being away from home for another season is what's done it this time round. Could be just what he needs being back over here.

I don’t disagree with you but in the market we’re in, another body that can come on for half an hour and be 20% more effective than McAteer is as much of an improvement that we can hope for. 1
