Genuine question, who would be the best ever January signing, Premier League not just Leicester, since the January transfer window was introduced?

The only two nominations I can think of are Huth for us and Bruno at Man Utd. Any other suggestions?

Don't buy this idea you can't get anyone decent in January Morgan, Mahrez, Huth, Ndidi and Tielemans didn't do half bad here

Doesn’t make it the norm  though does it?

Our business should be minimal.

At the start of the season, our squad looked stronger than ever.  We have a full squad.  We have had horrible problems with injuries but we still have a strong squad.

Our weakest players , imo, are three established premier league players:  perez, Bertrand and Vestegaard.   I thought Bertrand would be a good signing.  Vestegaard was a compromise buy that doesn't look good.

We benefit (or would but for Fofana's injury) by having two u21s to top up numbers,

We generally  have a strategy for summer buys.  We are likely to lose one or two players this year.

Hopefully, the injury situation will ease.  Players will return from Afcon.

If we can get an acceptable centre back on loan,  no more business is likely unless a player who is part of a more long term strategy  becomes available.

The 55 million net spend in the summer coupled with covid chaos screams no money. A loan is the only real possibility and that may happen with Fofana's setback. A lot depends on whether they can get Jonny fit.

Do we actually have any detail on this 'setback'?

I have almost written off the league campaign this season in terms of qualifying for your Europe. Hopefully finish top-half, but ultimately prioritise the conference league and FA cup, which we should have more players back for.

No point signing anyone for the sake of it. If Vestergaard hasn't made that perfectly clear to people then nothing will. Use your reserves if a player is going to be injured for a while. Don't sign a piece of trash on legs that will cost the club tens of millions over the next few years whilst contributing nothing.

You must have torn a page out of BR's notebook, spot on.

...you can't really include big clubs acquisitions into this argument!!!

They have the finance to take a player out of a lesser club and it can be good business for a club, who maybe not much closer to relegation or chasing a top table position.

Clubs such as Newcastle and United can splash out £40m quite easily. If you have to watch the budget, you are more likely to pick up a loan of a fringe player, than someone brought in to improve your first eleven.

Apparently we’re ****ed. I’ve just seen Top in a pair of tatty joggers by the clock tower singing Robbie Williams covers, the bank account is dryer than a nuns fanny! (According to top).

Gas and electric scheduled to be turned off tomorrow, and Mike Ashley is buying the club for 50p, a twin and a blowie. All over chaps, jumble sale at Coalville car boot on Sunday!

Pretty sure I’ve just seen Benkovic in heels and a red frock on a corner somewhere.

Virgil Van Dijk by a country mile.

We have received very little from transfers since Chilwell and apart from speculation about Tielemans there appears to be little interest in any of our non-core players. We seem to be a club which  has to weaken itself potentially to receive any significant  transfer income. However we have seen that given a chance our younger players can step up. The more who can make that transition, the less transfer business we need to do.

At best we get a loan signing towards the end of the window I reckon. We don't have any squad spaces, we have players making up the numbers in the squad who don't really offer us anything but going to be difficult to get rid of in January. We could only sign an attacking player if we maybe get Perez out on loan somewhere, don't think that's impossible. How many loan players are you allowed? Already have Lookman unless we can turn that permanent. Fingers crossed Justin, and maybe Fofana will seem like January signings.

I know it’s a different sport but it’s just what Tigers did for a couple of seasons when finishing second bottom. Desperate to avoid relegation they signed loads of journeymen types who were Vestergaard types of business, where u believe that if they’ve played so many games for another team they must be good.  Then covid came and relegation was scrapped. Borthwick is able to play the kids and see what they offer and the rest is history. A players CV has conned plenty of managers over the years into thinking the player must be okay.  Sometimes the answers to your problems are very close.
