StriderHiryu Posted 5 March 2022 Posted 5 March 2022 These guys are really good. Don’t be surprised if at times they look like the Premier League outfit. But we’ve got proven quality which they don’t have. Think this will be a close tie and could even go to extra time in the second leg. On paper it should be great tie to watch! 1
Ric Flair Posted 5 March 2022 Posted 5 March 2022 Rennes are mustard, do not let Jannick Vestergaard anywhere near that starting line up please. I am concerned Ndidi was struggling and could be out, the Nigerian press will tell us soon enough. Shame Mendy isn't registered. Really need Maddison back for this as well. Schmeichel Ricardo Amartey Soyuncu Thomas Ndidi / Hamza KDH Albrighton Maddison Barnes Daka Subs: Iheanacho, Vardy, Justin, Fofana, Soumare, Ward, Jakupovic, Lookman, Perez, Vestergaard, Tielemans, Hamza / Wanya Marca 1
PhillippaT Posted 5 March 2022 Posted 5 March 2022 Considering I have French relatives, maybe that's why I 'has a sad' even though there's probably no way I could go to the away match, regardless? (My uncle (Mum's side) lives in Amiens, which is still quite a ways from Rennes, but still...)

Indeed. I'm just amazed lots of people didn’t fancy this in the first place. It's an absolute privilege to play in a European competition and there are some great 'b' and 'c' list names/destinations in the hat. 8

The last two seasons everyone wanted Champions League , we got Europa and basically got schooled .Champions League would have been worse . The more European football we play the better we will get so if we do eventually get Champions League hopefully we won’t get owned every game Edited 5 March 2022 by baldeagle 6

It would’ve been a horrendous experience. Just think of how our boys would have faired against the likes of PSG. 1
coolhandfox Posted 6 March 2022 Posted 6 March 2022 We are going to have to be at our very best to get thought this tie.

Really think we need to take a 2 goal lead away from home to stand a chance.

What I can't see is Rodgers being tactically superior in this encounter.

It really is not the best way to use him, he has begun to snatch at opportunities, as he is not sure when the next one is going to arrive. Now constantly drifting offside and either caught on his heels, instead of anticipating situations. He does not have the presence of Vardy against a backline, and we are looking to starve him of supply and support once again. It is too much to change the whole balance of the team for one player, but we do need to put him out on the pitch where he has the chance to play to his strengths. Is it possible that we have got this all wrong as if Rodgers prefers a back four and insists on playing just one striker; then he has to use a player who can genuinely play on their own upfront or use a striker in a three upfront and that would suit Nacho more than Daka. Rodgers needs to decide how he wants to play and start to utilise his players, where they feel they are not passengers standing there, whilst the game passes them by. PhillippaT Posted 6 March 2022 Posted 6 March 2022 We can and will do this! (The reverse psychology stopped working, so time for some over-the-top positivity? We're NOT doomed, so there )

I agree, Daka on his own isn't ideal. He will eventually develop to play on his own otherwise he won't make it to the very top. Iheanacho will never be able to play up on his own, not quick enough or got the reliable first touch to do so.
