There is a difference between playing upfront on your own and being isolated. I don't think Vardy is particularly good at playing upfront on his own these days either but that seems to get overlooked. Yesterday was another example. I don't remember him looking like he would score or even having a chance. If Iheanacho had played like that yesterday this forum would have been all over it. The fact that when he came on he was playing up front on his own and did more than Vardy who apparently can play upfront on his own.

Daka and Iheanacho are very decent players in my opinion who we are lucky to have. The fact they we can't seem to utilize them to anything like their best is our failing not that of the players.

4-3-3 isolates our strikers, where as 4-2-3-1 with Maddison in behind Vardy or Daka is still our best system. The obvious answer for Daka and Iheanacho when they play is 4-2-2-2 which is also KDH's best use as well covering that left central area, he's immense at it.

Rennes are on BT sport at 2pm today for those fancying a scouting mission.

Thanks for the heads up. Just set it to record..... Can't watch it live due to family Sunday lunch. The game will be a nice aperitif.

I agree with that and much of the time yesterday, Vardy pulled over to the left and very successfully helped out to make things happen. It did however mean that he wasn't then in the middle to score! However, do we remember how Iheanacho got to be our top goalscorer last year? Wasn't he abley assisted by a certain Mr Vardy who just also happened to make things happen on the left?

I agree, Daka on his own isn't ideal. He will eventually develop to play on his own otherwise he won't make it to the very top. Iheanacho will never be able to play up on his own, not quick enough or got the reliable first touch to do so.

...moreover he (Iheanacho) lacks the instinctivity to play, when he is exposed upfront on his own!!!

Too much information in his head and he will neither do one or the other.

In a front three he can use the wide Forwards as a decoy, and operate in the #10 spot where he is most comfortable.

Daka will struggle here, as we do not play how we use to, by condensing the pitch with a highline. Rodgers is looking to play out from the back and that is how he sees his team's playing, we may not have the personnel at the moment but we need to get people around Daka, as game by game he is going to start questioning himself and the reason why he came here.

It's no coincidence IMO that Daka's got worse since Maddison hasn't been playing behind him. Although he's still very raw as a striker at this level in hold up play and bringing others in to play, he was still doing quite well up to Xmas in a front 2 and even vs Spurs, Brighton and West Ham he was better with Maddison supporting him but Randers, Wolves and Burnley he's been poor.

Schmeichel

Justin Amartey Soyuncu Thomas

Lookman  Ndidi Dewsbury-Hall Barnes

Iheanacho

Daka

Keep Maddison, Vardy for 30mins, hopefully have Ricky P, Castagne, Fofana on the bench aswell. I would be playing Albrighton in the Premier League for most of the rest of the season and so wouldn't kill him playing him right back on a Thursday as well.

Off the top of my head I thought he was more on the right ? especially first half with Barnes on the left. IMO both looked isolated and we didn't create much. Yes I thought Vardy was excellent last season on the left with Iheanacho scoring. I thought that was how we'd try to set up as it looked so good but I think we've hardly done it since.

Best available XI v Rennes home and away

Bin off Arsenal away with the best available reserves v Arsenal

Best available XI v Brentford

Go into the international break with 36 points and into the quarters of the conference league.

...we were hideous against Arsenal last time out, their tempo killed us!!!

We are not going into a game against Arsenal with a makeshift team.  Even with a full compliment we would struggle against them, you would rather take a 7-0 drubbing than give yourself an imagined better chance of progression in the cup. A defeat of that magnitude does not guarantee progression in the cup competition.

....it was a strange thing to see, Vardy as provider, but we all know that has always been something that he is genuinely good at doing!!!

Vardy's inability to hit the net (for a long period in that season) was such an unusual sight, as there were countless chances that he wasn't putting away.

I feel the major gripe is to do with the combination of Nacho and Vardy and believing in the continuation of their partnership, which hasn't  happened, this season.

Rennes have been dealing with injuries lately and might have a bit of fatigue when we meet. Let’s see how they line up today…

While their opponent came in on a 5-match losing streak, this looks like a very strong showing

Was this their full strength XI?

They're missing a few players by the looks of it but it's still a very strong side they have.

Interesting they went 4-4-2, I'd be tempted to match them up with Ndidi and KDH if Maddison isn't available and Daka and Iheanacho up front.

We need to win this leg. I don't fancy us to win at their place. They're a good side and I think we've got to play well to get through, and I mean significantly better than yesterday. We might get away with it in one game but not over two legs.

They've won today.

We need Maddison for this and Vardy ideally, concerned he's already got injured again....

Really hope not

Can't understand why Vardy wasn't saved for the last 30 v Leeds, just as he was v Burnley.  Would have been more sensible to send him on when Leeds defenders were tiring, and just for 30 mins, thus easing him back in.

4th best defence and the lowest xGA in France this season. Can’t see us beating them across 2 legs. They’re good as set pieces as well.

We’ve been a bit better at the back but it’s came at the cost of our attack imo.

Head says hell no, heart says if we could beat Sevilla over two legs ...

FFS this had better not be a passive crowd.

Is this the game where soumare will shine? Back against French opposition where he stood out last season? Springboard his leicester career🤞

Only if Ndidi is injured, otherwise why not play a full strength side given this is the more likely route back in to Europe next season?

That said Ndidi did seem to be struggling with a knock/strain on Saturday and might need taking out for a week or so.

Ye I notice him stretching out and limping! I fully agree we should go full strength. But we all know what brendans like for changing team and formation up! Similar team to Saturday starts Thursday for me but Maddison in if he’s fit
