Pre-match Press Conference vs Man Utd

Five subs?

“Certainly having experienced it, I’m very much in favour of it. At the beginning I was in favour of three, but having had a look at it, primarily for the health of the players, five works much better.”

Benefits big clubs?

“It can do, but ultimately it’s about the players. In cup competitions I've been able to take players off who were struggling. There have been times I’ve wanted extra subs. The top teams will always have top players”

Injuries?

“Jonny Evans will be available whether he’s able to play a whole game or not. Wesley will be back involved as well. Luke Thomas picks up an injury, so he's a doubt for the weekend. Wilfred Ndidi will be out for the season.”

Evans?

“It’s very important. Jonny has been a huge influence in my time here. He’s played at the top level throughout his career and he has the view of the top of the game. He performs at the top level. He is not 100 per cent match fit at the moment.”

Ndidi?

“He has had surgery and will be looking to get back in June. Papy Mendy has come in, we thought he was leaving last summer but has come back in and he’s always been professional.”

Vardy?

“He’s certainly not ready for the weekend. We’ll assess it over the next week.”

United?

“They have top-class players who can change the course of the game. We have a good record against them recently. You have to play at the highest level tactically. They are playing at home so we have to be aggressive.”

Maguire boos?

“My question would be what help does it do? By nature of the word supporter, you are there to support. I was disappointed for him. He’s a brilliant guy. He has the tools to overcome it. You need resilience.e He has the focus on him at a big club. He’s a resilient guy. Internationally, Harry has been a great player for England over these past three or four seasons. Maybe it's just the modern world, patience is short now. It doesn’t do a player any good. You support through the good and the bad.”

More subs help young players?

“There are enough spaces on the bench for young players. The players have to be ready. You have to want to play young players, then there is an opportunity there."

When Maguire left?

“Harry, in the period I arrived, was exceptional. It’s one of the things I really hold up from when he left, was his behaviour. Every coach will tell you players’ behaviour will be different, but he was a role model. He respected that he was still a Leicester player. It was clear the interest from Man United, and the club were determined for the valuation to be met. That can be frustrating for a player, but he didn’t show it. He didn’t isolate himself. He could have not played a part in pre-season. He was a good man, who respected what Leicester gave him. Leicester got the money and he had the chance to go to one of the biggest clubs in the world.”

Last game v United?

“I thought we were excellent in the game. We played some great football. They scored some very good goals, but we showed the mentality to come back. It was a great game and if it’s another like that and we win, I will be very happy.”

Benefits of international break?

“Approaching the weekend, our form had picked up, and it coincides with the influential players coming back. We were still able to get some work in the guys here. Some guys needed some recovery. We have done some detailed work. We have introduced young players into training as well. All of the international players came back today so we will have a proper session tomorrow.”

Thomas?

“He’ll struggle for the weekend. He had an issue around his hamstring. He had a look at it but they sent him back.”

Albrighton?

“Marc’s available, yes.”

Evans?

“The international break was great for Jonny. What would work well for us and Northern Ireland if he was able to play. Ian had not expected him to be fit, and if he could get game-time in the first game, that would be great. He has come back with a good feeling. Barnesy had an ankle knock but has trained well this week.”

So easy to say ‘we got a good fee that helped us improve the infrastructure of the club and Harry got a move he wanted”

Why bring in Man U’s ‘size’ into this. ****ing weird bloke.

Spend enough time in the camera lens and sometimes you are just looking for padding and soundbites to get through – I wouldn't read too much into it tbh.

Or he’s making the point that if you leave here, you should only be going to a few elite clubs in Europe based on performance or size ….

The problem with that ideology is we have to continue to ace our recruitment of buying low, them being successful and being signed by the elite otherwise we'll also need to engineer some of them moving elsewhere as the numbers don't compute otherwise. You only have to look at the difficulty we are finding in refreshing our squad in recent years, it's all got a bit check mate and once the conveyor belt slows down and our reputation ad the go to club to take our best players weakens then we fall back in line with the likes of Everton, Wolves, Southampton, etc.

To be fair, Maguire was well conducted when he was touted to head to Man U. Right until that deal was signed he was focussing on playing for us and gave it everything. Cannot fault him.

Was just about to say something similar, we equally wanted to sell and got a very good deal. If he'd been unprofessional and done things others have, the price could have been a lot lower.

In reality he had 1 good season for us where we finished 9th, went to the World Cup and did well and came back with an ego that made him think he was already better than us and wanted to go. He instead signed a new 100k a week deal and an agreement he could go the next summer and he was nowhere near as good the 2nd season, again one in which we finished 9th.

We somehow got a world record fee for him and have gone on to win a major trophy without him whereas he's won nothing and we definitely benefitted from the deal as he doesn't suit a team that plays a high line possession based style without the protection of a back 3.

When you measure his time here, he achieved less than someone like Spencer Prior and we were very very fortunate that Slabhead mania and our reputation as being the go to club to recruit from led a horrendously run and lazy Man Utd in paying whatever it took to get him. He's been an abomination there and will go down as one of their biggest wastes of money ever.

I can't disagree with much of that but it doesn't explain the resentment from our fans towards him.

He was brought up in Sheffield and supported the blades, played for them ,moved to Hull, then us.

He never had a long time at Leicester and wouldn't have thought of us as anything other than a stepping stone which is what happened.

As soon as they start mixing with the England squad ,they are with players ,playing in front of huge crowds,in massive stadiums and on 2 or 3 times the wages that Leicester could offer.

It happened with Ben and it might happen with ,Harvey,Luke and KDH in the future ,and they have got a big connection with the city of Leicester.

To my knowledge he didn't mouth off but when a chance came to go to United, he couldn't turn it down and most players wouldn't.

We all know he was never as good as the hype but we sold at a really good time and it set the club up, so it suited both sides.

I just don't understand the really nasty stuff being said about him ,he's not a great player, but seems a decent enough bloke and it's not his fault United wanted a marquee signing that summer and were prepared to pay whatever to get him.

At a time when people are suffering from mental problems, I hope he can cope with the abuse he's getting and United (the club) are looking out for him.

He should get his arse off social media though

I don’t think it is necessarily him. The fact that his brother persists with winding Leicester fans up on social media incites animosity towards Maguire.

I don’t think why he thinks doing that is funny. (Harry) Maguire was always respectful both when he left and recently, for example, when he congratulated us on the FA Cup win.

His brother on the hand is an absolute nobody who plays for Ilkeston Town lol. Who does he think he is? He seems to forget that we were the club who made his family relevant and gave his brother a massive pay cheque.

In short, that is why I like getting one over United / Maguire tbh.

Always disliked Maguire and that includes when he played for us. Really couldn't stand his lethargic play and constantly slowing us down.

Don't think I've ever booed a former player as it really serves no purpose but if I had to choose one I might force out a boo for Harry.

Under Puel he was our only player driving the ball up the pitch.

But not in any meaningful manner. Slow and laborious giving every team time to reset.

In his second season I though he was especially appalling but I know I'm perhaps in the minority on that.

Confirmed

Leicester City's Wilfred Ndidi will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury.

The Nigeria midfielder limped off in his side's 2-1 second-leg defeat by Rennes in the Europa Conference League earlier this month.

Ndidi, 25, has since undergone surgery and will be sidelined for the run-in.

Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers said: "Wilfred Ndidi will be out for the season, it's a shame for us, but he'll get ready for next season."

Luke Thomas is a doubt for the game against United after picking up an injury while on England Under-21 duty, while Jamie Vardy is still being assessed and won't be in contention for "at least a few weeks".

Rodgers said Jonny Evans is available for the trip to Old Trafford but is unlikely to play the full 90 minutes after featuring for Northern Ireland in their 3-1 over Luxembourg last week.

The mood around the Leicester camp is a positive one following the international break. "This week we could train, get some detailed work into those who stayed and bring new guys into training."

Opponents Manchester United have "absolutely top class players" and even though the Foxes have a good record against them, Rodgers isn't taking anything for granted. "You need to be really focused in the game, and then hope your quality can come through."

I think it's because we've got a astronomical fee for him which was hilarious in itself and he's proven to be one of the biggest wastes of money in years, of course our fans and others are going to revel in it.

I don't massively enjoy the social media vitriol and swathes of stuff that goes on as it's too much but it's no surprise that our fans are going to be quite vocal about this with a big dose of pissing taking.

If he was doing well there like Kante or Mahrez has done, there'd be more respect and begrudging jealousy but its all too easy this is. The fact we've gone from finishing mid table with him to x 2 5th place finishes and an FA Cup whilst he's won nothing is another layer on top of this.

Oh wow.

FFS. We need to get a grip, its embarrassing

Haha, you said he doesn't give it the big I am. There's accounts of him doing it in Greece and twice he's put his hands to his ears after scoring goals when he's in a shocking period of form lol

This is not the fact he left Leicester, it's because him and his brother are proper weird and far too smug when things occasionally go right lol

If he showed a bit of humiliaty and accepted that some of the criticism was warrented then I doubt anyone would be giving him a hard time.

I'm surprised at a sportsman having a go back at fans after getting sh1t from them, never heard that happen before!

It's his perogative, if he thinks he was playing well and wants to give it the biggun after scoring a header against powerhouses Albania, then fair play. It's not going to make people warm to him though lol

"Oh the 9'10 defender just scored a header against a team ranked lower than Atlantis, maybe I was wrong about him playing poorly and making costly mistakes"

I hope we don't half and half this and PSV. Full beans for both or go easy in the United (yeah everyone knows I mean United when I say that, but yes you're very clever for realising other teams names end in United) game and smash it during PSV. Don't be going half pace in both though.

They ought to be going full throttle at everything bit just rotating where needs be. I know when the games are relentless that it's not always possible but we can build a head of steam up again in the next few weeks before that ought to be a real issue. Rotation is key, the beauty of the amount of injuries we have had is that there's constant change anyway and we are sort of adapting to that even if it is still going to prevent us hitting the heights we really can.
