Could we? We need to buy something in the region of a minimum of 8 players, we can’t wait to start that process. We have seen what happens when you leave your business right until the end. I’d rather us not wrangle for an extra £5m which would put our entire summer at risk and just move on. Get this sale out of the way and move on, now start getting players in. I know everybody’s upset about last season, but we had two fifth place PL finishes, FA Cup win and Community Shield win. He had one outstanding season for us, which was the season before last when he won player of the season. Will Soyuncu go down as one our all time greats? Two 5th placed finished. FA Cup win and community shield win. Will Amartey go down as an all time great? 1 Premier league medal, Two 5th placed finishes, FA Cup win and a community shield. I, amongst others on this forum could easily name 20/30 players that would be ahead of him in our “all time greats” list. 7
EastAnglianFox Posted 28 June 2023 Posted 28 June 2023 (edited) I know there are many different factors involved but its still a sickner that Chelsea are likely to get around 60 million for a far less talented Mount Edited 28 June 2023 by EastAnglianFox 1

Guest Lcfc82 Posted 28 June 2023 Posted 28 June 2023 It’s a poor fee considering Southampton are asking for 50 million for Livramento. But we have let ourselves get into this situation where he has 1 year left and won’t sign a new contract, if Spurs are the only team interested we have no choice but to sell.

Hes been our best player for the last 2 years. He deservew respect for performing, unlike Tielemans. I wish him.well. 2
Xen Posted 28 June 2023 Posted 28 June 2023 Relegated player on a high wage, with 1 year remaining so we're desperate to sell (and quickly as its well known we need a rebuild). It was always going to be in the £40-50m region, at best. Slightly disappointing its on the lower end, but if we're also looking to do a deal the other way with Winks (and/or a loan player) then we may have balanced that out with negotiations elsewhere. Especially if it avoids some of Norwich's sell on clause. Get him off the books so we can move on with players who actually want to be here. 4
Gav_LCFC14 Posted 28 June 2023 Posted 28 June 2023 Consequence of being relegated, if we were still up then we'd get at least another £10m

Loyalty bonus. That must be a fair whack he’s due from us. presumably we can ask spurs to pay it to him in addition to his s/o fee.

He was good this season too, 10 goals and 9 assits is a brilliant return in a relegated team. Much more than most of the other players have churned out and honestly don't know how we didn't win player of the season again. Personally I don't put him down as an "all time great" but a lot of people seem to be under-valuing what he contributed. If we get a midfielder who can return 10 goals and 9 assists this season then I'll be surprised, and that's in the divison below. Edited 28 June 2023 by Fox92 spelling
ealingfox Posted 28 June 2023 Posted 28 June 2023 Let's not forget he had to be dropped for disciplinary reasons before a massive game for breaking covid rules in order to enjoy himself as well. People say he speaks well (to which I'd say they're easily impressed) but the idea he's some kind of model pro is laughable.
Ricey Posted 28 June 2023 Posted 28 June 2023 It’s not £40M, it’s guaranteed £40M. No one knows what the add ins and instalments will be on that of that. It may also mean the Winks negotiations go about smoother. I’m just glad he’s gone before pre-season. Great player and I hope he does well, but he was a big contributing factor to our soft centre and weak mentality. 2

Fozdog Posted 28 June 2023 Posted 28 June 2023 In the position we put ourselves in, we have to take the money and move on. Getting it done earlyish in the transfer window might be a blessing in disguise, based on how the club has gone in past when holding out. I’d rather take the lesser amount and get to work getting players to help us bounce back up. They might not be there if we spend two weeks haggling for another guaranteed 5 mil.

May take longer but they will buy their way to trophies. They have unlimited wealth. Just a matter of time. ...I think it could be a lot sooner than people imagine!!! An F. A. Cup for this season or the Europa league this season is a possibility. There were posters on here saying that Newcastle were going to be relegated before their take over. As soon as the money was available they bought themselves out of trouble astutely. They have now put themselves in the Champions League in a very, very short space of time, all done expertly, without a hint of arrogance. I said that all they needed was a keystone, they have one now, and the rest will follow. They are going to be challenging for the league, it is pretty clear to me.
Popular Post Bert Posted 28 June 2023 Popular Post Posted 28 June 2023 I’m so glad he’s not gone to Newcastle mind, hope he boils their fans piss next season 12

I wonder who you'd rate ahead of him among the AM's we've had over the years? I don't happen to think he's an all time great, but he's in the conversation for a place in the 'all time XI' and surely would make a match day all time squad? 1

Covid party, laughing and joking with Grealish before the cup semi against Villa, that pass against Bournemouth, that penalty against Everton and generally not showing up for the big games. 1

car1os Posted 28 June 2023 Posted 28 June 2023 He’ll been great for us overall in the last few years and it’s a shame to lose him although it’s best all round. We need the money and while he should have gone for more that’s the price we pay for relegation. Although there’s a part of me which thinks that missing the penalty against Everton demonstrates to me that he’ll be a perfect fit for Spurs, I wish him well

Guest Kopfkino Posted 28 June 2023 Posted 28 June 2023 How many players with a year left on their contract are sold for more than 40m? Sterling went for 47m last year. Some people really do live on cloud cuckoo

He’s an absolutely exceptional footballer, I’m gutted he’s leaving. Yeah, he probably would be in the conversation, I’m not discounting that. If you’re going on pure technical ability he’s probably in our all time top 5, but that’s not what being an all time great consists of, for me. 5
