This guy makes an excellent point. Whoever comes in will just be another self serving career man (or woman)

That applies to all politicians of all persuasions as far as I can see. I just hope now we can elect a new leader reinvigorate the cabinet get back to some semblance of conservatism and defeat the socialists in 24.

Can't believe there isn't one final twist.

Please just let Boris walk out with a letter in hand and then say he's going to the Queen to call an election.

He's making a final statement today. Will he accept any responsibility for his failings or will he try to pin all the blame elsewhere?

Don't laugh and I didn't like her, but the country needs another Thatcher in at the moment.

Hard disagree with this one.

Probably in the minority but would have rather him stayed on until the general election.

On what grounds? When you've done what he's done you cannot hide behind him doing what's best for the country (which is highly debatable anyway). There's standards and laws and principles that he's made a fcukin mockery of and in any other walk of life he'd have been gone a long time ago.

Should Fred West have finished one of the houses he was building when all them kids were dug up? Come on pal!!!!

It’s true, and people on the left really need to get behind Starmer now. Yes he’s boring, but he is probably what this country needs in the near term. And if you want to challenge policy from the left, I’d rather do it with Labour in power.

I'd be fine with boring over this ****ing chaos.

The hard left of Labour live on a different planet, they'd rather have an Arthur Scargill type or Corbyn mark 2 in charge.

Labour can't win an election being a leftist party as there wont be anywhere near enough swing voters voting for them. A leader like Starmer is the most realistic option to take power away from the Tories.

That would be epic. Blindside the entire party and country.

Stinking Tories. This is the third time in succession that they've ditched or lost their Leader mid term just to save their scrawny necks. The whole lot need to be consigned to the rubbish bin of history. Just watch as all those lily livered Tory voters start jumping back onto the ship of this corrupt bunch of cretins that should have gone out of fashion with high buttoned boots and the Penny Farthing.

Time to come off social media for a few days. The "careful what you wish for, Keir & Co won't do any better" lot are out in force.

There will be too much pressure on a new leader not to call a GE within 6-9 months of being leader so maybe we're looking at winter or spring 2023.

I've seen more than one person blaming the downfall on pressures from 'woke' culture. What the actual fvck like?

What pressure would the new leader be under? None from his own party, they have a huge majority and know they have tanked in the polls. Any pressure from the opposition would be dismissed as politicking. Unless the new leader surges in the polls instantly they would be mad to call a snap election. They will just spend the next 2 years arse licking the electorate in the hope of staying in power.

Who are 'the socialists'? Do you just mean people you don't agree with?

Imagine a country being brought down by glitter and it's not Gary.
