Fans sitting on the dirt track,Frannie Lee looking magic, a playing to the crowd,

The atmosphere was stupendous & chaotic before kick off, then just grew like the perfect storm..When our last goals went in Police,Stewards & fans alike just went crazy..That was & stayed way above any Atmosphere experienced at Filbert street,

With tears in my eyes I couldn’t, get back for title celebrations, Everton & the parade,I assume they took over that Man.City Game..

Thanks for the shared memory. Great times and good to know their are a few supporters that still can reminisce and feel grateful to have experienced that period in time and our history.

All the CL games, the Man Utd 5-3, several of the title winning season games.

I did United 5-3 with a hangover. Never felt such a rollercoaster of emotions in 90 minutes in my life

I started going in '88, so not much to cheer about for a few years. Oxford 1-0 and Cambridge 5-0 were great, the old main stand was rocking!

It won't please many of a certain age, but IMO despite our success in the nineties, the atmosphere at Filbo wasn't great after the Carling Stand was built. The CS didn't seem to create or retain noise, the North Stand only held about 400 and the East Stand was 70% away fans. So unless you was in the Kop/DD, i never thought it was that good. Arsenal 3-3 stands out and the Villa 1-1 when Brian Little returned was incredibly loud and intimidating. I loved it as a teenager, even if it does seem a bit misplaced now.

I remember our first year in the Walkers and thinking how much better the atmosphere was in the new ground, Wolves (1-0) sticks in the memory despite it not being a game of significance.

Man Utd (5-3), Liverpool (2-0), Seville (2-0), Athletico (1-1), Everton (3-1) in fact almost every home in the second half of the title winning season was incredible. For me, it's threads like this one that make you realise how good we've had it recently, and our fans generally do raise it for the big occasion (excluding the Eindhoven game). Final thought,  Liverpool (1-0) at Xmas is underrated, that might have been down to the 8 hour pre-drinks though.

Sad reading nice memories about sporting blue and ticker tape on the big nights. That won't be happening again any time soon I guess with the club banning confetti for Christs sake.

Agreed, the carling stand was the beginning of the end shortly followed by seating the kop, the atmosphere was never the same after that.

Everton 2016 was obviously brilliant, but was a celebration of the season's achievement rather than an atmosphere for a single match.

For a single match, Sevilla CL.

I've said this before but I've never known a celebration like Vardys goal to make it 4-3 against united. It was absolute delirium everywhere you looked.

Probably one of my all time favourite football matches.

Maybe you're right. The Carling Stand was already up when I started going, but it was amazing in there for Atletico, and even the people in the posh bits got irate at the referee when Alan Shearer kicked Neil Lennon in the face. It'd be much more passive these days.

I never liked filbert Street tbh. I don't l0ok at it thro rose tinted glasses whatsoever. Two grand stands and two which were non league level. It was an embarrassment.

That atmosphere was as hit and miss as it is at the KP. As you say, the Brian Little return was incredibly hostile. And as others noted Cambridge was a great night.

As for the KP,  my own personal favourite was Swansea at home in the great escape. The relief when Kingy scored at the end to make it 2-0 after grinly hanging on all half was all too raw. Best celebration I've been part of.

As for away, I used to go to all the games in this period but missed the bank holiday games at Southend and Blackburn (rooster Russell game)  .....amd these 2 were prob the best away followings we've had in 40 odd years

One of the ones I missed and truly regret was Howard vs Leeds n league one.

I've heard that was special.

Yes that was special, I found it was one of them games that the ground exploded with that late so important goal, for me it’s Seville at the kp, and red star at filbert street absolutely nuts when we scored

I did mention it earlier in the thread, but just to reminisce -

Classic day down the walkers that. Was it a bank holiday weekend? Biggest game in that division at the time and it felt like it too, MON in attendance, Grayson and Pearson in the dugouts, Lee Mason reffing in league 1 (his level) rugby lines on the pitch from the tigers European cup semi final (quarter? Dunno), Leeds bought loads too. Started swinging my jacket when it hit the back of the net and my phone clocked the woman in front of me on the back of her head. Look at the state of the kop there man. That was a class season in fairness and that really topped it off that day. One of my fondest memories supporting Leicester.

It’s Sevilla. I show my young lad YouTube highlights often. The game had everything. The place was rocking.

im proud to say I was there that night.

also Kasper scoring against Yeovil was pretty good moment but not the whole match…. We was losing to Yeovil’s for Christ sake

I’d struggle to believe anyone who follows Swansea home and away wouldn’t see the KP as having the best home atmosphere in the country. They came to us when it was rocking for the Great Escape and when we nearly had the Premier League title in the bag and both games it was electric.

I've been very lucky reading this thread, considering the % of games I can get to & yet I've been at plenty of those mentioned in this thread: Cambridge & Tranmere Play-Off semi-finals, Villa & Sunderland league Cups semis (+ Sunderland away), Athletico x 2, Sevilla, Spurs 3-2 in the FA Cup.

I think there are 2 physical things that really help to generate the atmosphere: the closeness of the stands to the pitch and the closeness of the roof..

The stands at Filbert St seemed to be on top of the pitch - Family stand: balls going over the goal would ping straight off the silly boxes, East stand: I remember fans having a chat with Perry Groves during a break in play during a league cup came, Double Decker: I remember sitting on the top deck struggling to see the goal mouth because of sight lines. That closeness & feel like you're on top of the action reals creates that atmosphere. The roof then bounces the sound back: the kop was hemmed in by the seats on top, and there were low roofs on the Family/East stands. The sound reverberated around. Yes, it could be described as non-league, but close to pitch and low roofs did generate a hell of an atmosphere.

There is probably some truth in the Carling stand changing this, as this was set further back & the roof was higher.

But there is a massive gap between the stands and the pitch at the KP, and the roof is much higher. This just dissipates the atmosphere - the stands might be better but as its been said elsewhere, its designed for the sound to go to the pitch and not back to the fans. The Sevilla game was incredible, and I was in the kop trying to suck the ball in the net in the Athletico game, but the emotion of Leicester competing in the knockout phases of the European Cup alone was intoxicating rather than the sound coming from all angles.

Yes, the KP is a much better stadium and can't be described as an embarrassment, but its just doesn't bounce the sounds back to the fans. There is a reason there have been far more Filbert St matches mentioned than KP matches, and its not just rose tinted glasses.

The trouble is that I can't see the new stand helping the dynamic: it will put a higher roof on 1 of the stands and likely lead to more sound escaping.

That said, to answer the question for me is Cambridge. I just remember the whole stadium standing and singing Que Sera Sera - the emotion of the first time in 25 years we were going to Wembley: and sitting on the top deck of the double decker, seeing people coming out of their houses on Burnmoor St looking up to soak it in. After the tough 80s, it was probably the first real big night when it felt we were suddenly relevant again, and that's not easy to recapture.

I came here to make a joke about the time we lost 6 nil against Oldham, but just searched the head to head stats on Google and can find no record of it. Was it a bad dream that has turned into a false memory?

Re: the actual thread I’m tempted to say that the Atletico atmosphere at home trumped the Sevilla game, but feels ‘less than’ because we lost. But it was absolutely thrilling. And it was amazing at the end when the Atletico fans started chanting “Leicester, Leicester, Leicester” in tribute to us.
