I don’t follow the lower leagues as much as I used to so genuine question…. Is he actually good or are we just excited because he plays for one of the big teams? Was he good at Huddersfield?

Had a very good season by all accounts - if we're looking for a comparison, Guehi was another Chelsea loanee who ended up signing for Palace after a good season in the Championship with Swansea, and that turned out alright.

Leicester and Southampton are watching the situation closely. Southampton have a pattern of signing promising Chelsea youngsters – they bought Tino Livramento and loaned Armando Broja last summer – and Leicester have been tracking Colwill for a while. Leicester inquired about taking Colwill on loan in January, but Chelsea did not want to break their agreement with Huddersfield.

It all hinges on Tuchel being able to guarantee him minutes next season but I honestly don't think he's going to be able to offer enough. I think Chelsea will have plenty of game time to offer Colwill. They haven't signed 2-3 CBs yet, and even if they do, they'll have Champions League, and increased fixture congestion (due to the world cup). He'd get more games at Southampton, assuming he starts week in and week out. I'm not sure where he'd fit in the LCFC depth chart. 

 

If i were Colwill, i probably would want to see if I could claim one of the Chelsea starting spots, and make a move in Jan (or next summer) if he doesn't.

He'd essentially be level with Evans in our depth chart, seeing how we need to keep him fit.

They've only got Silva, Chalobah and Sarr as genuine cb's don't they? James as a makeshift in a back 3 as they've done before. Rumours are Kounde, De ligt and Ake. They get those 3 and he's off. They don't and there might be a space for him given they play a back 3, CL and 5 subs.

They might be able to offer a higher salary and 1st team since since we bought vestergaard they have an opening....

The worry would be that they are willing to offer a loan... then chelsea would always choose them over us.
