Yep think there's another world where we don't have quite the same animosity - though in my case it's not towards the player himself but more the hierarchy.

Fair play to Ayo. He wants to play regular football and is willing to take a probable paycut for it. I have enormous respect for him. Unlike Vesty, who is fine with being fourth of fifth choice and wont leave even when the club has found him a move.

He played a decent and unconventional role, albeit never on the right wing role as we wanted. And he was instrumental in our FA cup win. I'm sad we didn't get a fee out of him.

 

So Brendan will be choosing a replacement now. I'm looking forward to that. Can't wait.

Can we please acknowledge we did not pay £30m for him. I'm sure in reality it was closer to £18m and the fee was spun up by Mike Ashley briefing the press.

 

He's one of the squad players I would least like to offload, but if this gets the ball rolling on getting a right winger in then fair enough. Hopefully it goes through and he tears it up in Spain!

Always thought he was half decent in the number 10 role behind the striker, as a winger an absolute no no though. Didnt understand why we signed him at the time and still dont know now. Typical Rodgers business spending big money on a player to shoehorn him into another position when we were crying out for an out and out winger. Always gave his all though so wish him luck in the future.

Okazaki is a good comparison actually, as is Albrighton. Both players who most fans appreciated and often said we played better with them in the side as they did the dirty work that meant the likes of Vardy, Mahrez and later Barnes and Maddison could stay forward more and had more attacking freedom. Every good team has those workhorses and water-carriers who knit the more technically gifted players together.
 

Think if he’d be a free transfer or cost £6m or £7m like Albrighton or Okazaki then Perez would be quite liked as the workhorse and water-carrier he is, but at £30mil for an attacking player and our marquee signing of that summer, people were expecting a Vardy/Mahrez/Maddison type player who can pull goals out of the bag from nowhere while feeding from scraps or from half-chances and win points on their own, which he never was.

 

Not saying he’s as good at that as prime Okazaki or Albrighton before anyone jumps on me, just comparing them in style.

 

I think he’s been a decent enough player for us, but one we just massively overpaid for, which ultimately wasn’t his fault. Hope he does well for the rest of his career.

I've often thought the opposite, we've always looked better without him in the side. It left a space for a footballer 🤣
