Maddison is a cut above right now.

...in comparison, Barnes comes across as a one-trick pony!!!

He couldn't beat his man and did the same thing over and over again. He does not try to do anything out of the ordinary and he seems bereft of any confidence that he will be able to beat his man.

This team lacks creativity, we are like robots who follow instructions and do not think for themselves. Maddison stands out because he will try to do something different, Soumare looks for a pass that is away from the norm, which asks questions of the opposition, we are just too wooden in our play and it was crying out for an academy player to come on and try something new.

Big scare with Fofana, not sure why we kept him on the pitch, we have done this before and it only led to the player needing a long time off or surgery.

You can only beat what’s in front of you and it was an easy win, the home crowd was noisy but in reality had very little to cheer about. Maddison was excellent and his goal was sublime, shame Vardy didn’t score as he was getting plenty of stick from the locals, as you’d expect.
KDH didn’t stop running and Daka took his goal well. Pleasing night overall.

A few takeaways:

- Anybody else get the feeling that 2nd half team looked like the first choice except for Tielemans and Castange? We know Tielemans has a foot out the door, but makes me wonder if there is more to the Castagne rumours???

- The look on Fofana's face when he went down from that challenge... Saw the season flash before our eyes! Best moment of the game was when he put his boot back on and carried on.

- As others have said: we gave game time to 21 players, but no Nacho, Ndidi, Hamza, Kasper, Betrand and no youth team players - we have a very bloated squad and really need to get rid of some players!

- There was some champagne stuff going forwards for the first 20 mins of the 2nd half, but we all know we are a different side when we have the option of the ball over the top to Vardy stretching defences and keeping them guessing: we've scored 8 goals in pre season and I think 6 of those have come in the 2 halves Vardy has been on the pitch. At some point we are going to have to start learning how to score goals without him on the pitch!

But pre-season is about building game by game, and that was a real step up from what went before and some much needed positivity to reflect on!

I make it 4 goals with Vardy on and 4 goals without him on? He wasn’t on for the goal against Notts County, the first 2 against OHL and the first goal tonight.
On the Castagne point, I think it’s more when the two groups of players returned to training. The first half team

had most of our international players who had an extra week or two off.

Agree with most, pleasing night and a great run out. First half they done what they needed to do, daka great goal. Others not really in the game. Play it out to the wings then too robotic in crossing and losing out.. 2nd half absolute fire, vardy chases everything, Maddison sublime. Basically there will be no relegation scrap if they play like the second half..

only hope the tool that ran up to our lads at the end gets dealt with. Security not quick enough on the pitch but they got him when he jumped back over..

A good night all round

The intensity in our goals pleased me. Movement is slightly better but some improvement still needed which is expected. But, things are looking good. Madders looks the don, Barnes has looked good too.

I saw on the stream 2 kids of about 10 years old jump and run towards Hull lads warning down, must of been 10 mins after the final whistle.

I still think we need to have lookman back for those times when barnes looks spent of ideas and becomes ineffective on the left. Lookman comes on and instantly makes an impact and is happy to play that role.

Barnes really has step up a few gears and become a more complete player. He’s had long enough time on that left wing.

I mean , technically, it's not actually a cup, is it?!

It's the saucer for the cup but credit to corendon/hull for creating the first invisible cup.

Some good performances tonight, very pleasing to see.

Yep, was what I thought too. A decent workout against not very good competition. Difficult to know what to read into it given the difference in class/ability but we looked good for the most part. No negatives for us to ponder.

Though I did think Barnes wasn't quite there on occasion.

Barnes form wasn’t great last season and he doesn’t seem to have picked up based on what I’ve seen so far - yet his returns were still decent. it will come for him. Having lookman here helped as it challenged him to deliver.

I guess we can go to a back three if he’s not performing .

Perhaps because he wasn’t injured?

If we take a player off every time one goes down we’ll need more than 5 subs this season.

Daka is very much one of those players who can just score out of nothing which is exciting. Needs to inprove his overall game still

Absolutely superb finisher. I personally think he's probably a better and more consistent shooter of the ball than Iheanacho, particularly given he doesn't seem to have a bad foot. He's excellent off both.

Definitely isn't the most natural dribbler, typically wants the ball out in front of him which means we've got to learn to actually provide for him properly but given that's not wildly different to Vards it shouldn't be hard.

He needs a good stretch starting and playing properly when the team collectively is in decent form and actually creating chances, something he didn't really get at all last year and you could see his confidence gradually declining in every game.

That said, he does need to work on his movement. There was a noticeable difference when Vards came back in to the side. He's always making the right runs and finding the right spaces in the box and Daka needs to develop that if he wants to make easier for the team to find him.

Said it last season will say it again.  Genuinely believe Daka needs to beef up.  They need to get him in the gym lifting weights.  Gets outmuscled by defenders easily.  I believe there is a player and goal scorer in there but he does need to bring physicality to his game especially in the premier league.

Thanks LCFC TV for the coverage.

I enjoyed watching the match, I thought Soumaré and Maddison had good games, Barnes looked good at times. Absolute relief when Fofana put his boot back on and started running around, I guess the awful injury from last year got into his head when he went down and reacted the way he did. My main gripe is the way we p155 about in our own box, any better team would have had 2 goals off of us. After Daka scored the next 3 times he had the ball he passed it backwards when it was easier to go forwards...why?

He will be gone as soon as a big club gets into trouble.   He knows he has no future here. The board wont saction his ideas.  He is preparing his excuses. I think by xmas is very possible.   Let's see.

The real issue for me is who the club goes for next... I hope they are working on this now.

For Rodgers supporters this will be a blow... but even the most enthusiastic cant see this lasting too long.  For some of us it will be a chance to dance to a new beat.

Fans wanting to see more from Barnes other than scoring goals, creating goals and freeing up space in other areas of the park because teams know what he can do are thr equivalent of trying to sell rustlers burgers at a vegan recipe book launch.

This is his game, he frustrates, he can often look like he's not performing or certainly not progressing and yet he's still one of our most reliable and dangerous players. Could he be better? Yes of course but at what's he good at more than what he's not good at. Fans saying he's a one trick pony, that's because that trick is a nightmare for teams to play against if they are stretched and out of position. His ability to go past players is through space and momentum and not through skill and guile. He's not that sort of player and it's as much the team need to play faster and more dynamic football to open the game up to get Barnes at his devastating best as it is for him to be better at mixing up his attacking play.

He's often criticised for being greedy but 3 years ago he was being criticised for being a poor finisher and supplier in the final third. He's improved both through hard work and determination and a mindset that he needs to be greedier and put the ball away for the team. I don't think you get that side of Barnes by expecting something else from him, there is limitations to his game and that's OK as he's still a very important and excellent player for us.
