We’re the talking topic on Talk Sport at the moment

They said Rodgers would leave his contract worth £30m voluntarily earlier if he wasn't backed.

Ha as if.

Rodgers is in a great position, if he does well all of a sudden he’s succeeding on a shoestring and there will be interest in his services and if he doesnt do well he can say he wasnt backed and some guillible clubs will eat it up.

One of the presenters has made a bold claim that Brendan won’t be our manager by MW10.

Same clowns who claimed Poch would be a good fit at Everton.

He left because the club would not offer him a new contract on anything like the salary of his existing contract. The club did not fight for him to stay, so he took a rational career decision to end his playing days on the south of France. Good luck to him. This is not evidence of a club in decline, though - it is evidence of a club looking forwards.

I admire your optimism and I do hope you are correct.... however I fear not.

Who could be as good as Vestergaard last season.

Everton have spent 0.5b on new players over the last 5 seasons how's that gone?

We better hope patson daka turns into a monster this year...he needs to finish 50% of his 2 chances per game otherwise we are 17th I'm afraid

It's not so much we are in decline it's more the league just gets bigger and bigger

Do they know him that well?

Why would he make himself unemployed and out of pocket unless an almost equally soundly paid job came along?

Exactly.

I suspect not. Kasper going may well ease tensions, not because he was necessarily a consciously malign influence, but he had been at the club a long time and made his opinions known. For all we're losing his many merits, some problems at his end of the pitch may now get fixed at the very least.

Daka is Shinji on speed. I hope he and Vardy get some decent game time together... but, who would be left out?

With Kasper leaving and the lack of a replacement or any signing. Are we on the d clone as a club? Have we reached our peak and that’s as good as it gets?

it all seems so negative and we seem to be feeling the effects of not qualify for the champions league twice and some poor management with regards to transfers and contracts.

Yes. Just like Derby we're in decline. FFS.

Harv injured, Riccy injured, no signings, Wes probably off, Tielemans not signing a new contract, Maddison = **** knows

We’re either getting relegated or we’re winning the whole ****ing thing. My mental state is in pieces. Im listening to Drizzy One Dance on repeat (number one when we last won the whole ****ing lot) just to try and manifest some form of good feeling.

More transition than decline. We've learned our lessons from having players on the books that we can't register, and it would be irresponsible to bring in more players if we end up with a group of players totalling over 200k a week doing nothing but training. It is concerning that we're useless at moving players on when they're not wanted, but maybe we should cut our losses with some of them. I expect next summer to be different when we have quite a few contracts expiring.

Either that or the owners are lining up a sale . The seagrave investment and stadium expansion are material assets, where as putting money into the squad is a lot more uncertain financially. Do they feel they've taken us as far as they could and can't see us breaking into the top 6 consistently?

Characteristically excellent from this channel.

I honestly think that this lad is a better football journalist than almost anyone outside of the broadsheets.

Very good summary.

Nearly knows the club better than most of us on here.

No mention of swapping the Family Stand/Kop mind.:D

It's been mentioned we might get sold and, truthfully, I can see it in the next few years. The cup win looked like it meant so much to Top - he achieved an ambition the family had.

Kasper's gone, Vardy will be done in 2-3 years. All the immortals will have gone. What more does he have left to achieve with the club?

It was his Dad's club. The family wanted his image outside the stadium. Probably too emotional to sell.

He's a brilliant journalist.

He's not just limited to mainstream stuff either; he made a fascinating video about, of all things, Tajikistani football not so long ago. His knowledge and research are on a different level.

Excellent video and great point about players coming back being as good as strengthening the squad. We finished 8th last year without Fofana, Justin, Evans, Vardy, Ndidi etc for large chucks of it, and Ndidi was often filling in at the back when he was playing. Add those to the team, plus a more settled Daka, potentially a more settled Soumare, along with Praet returning. We really don't have much to worry about. Sure it would have been nice to add even more to the squad, but its hardly as bleak as some make out, and above all else we're being sensible on the finance so as not end up like Everton. So even we do end up moving a first team player on this window we can invest into improving the squad.

That's not to say everything is rosey, the situation with unwanted players isn't ideal, and neither is the head of recruitment situation, but we not in the depths of despair just yet.
