I can only imagine you don’t go to games. People are upset because lots of money and time with family/friends has now been lost

Yeah this. For me it’s the one thing I still do with my old man and the fact that this was a Saturday 3pm meant we were looking forward to it more that normal.

So with next weekend's fixture likely to also be postponed due to the funeral, we actually will have Brendan Rodgers as manager for the biggest game we've had since the Cup Final.

Oh come on - if you chose only to spend time with family or friends at a football match that's your issue! - just because the football is off doesn't mean you can't do anything else with your friends or family! Flipping heck

Absolutely ludicrous decision.

The government has literally said there is no obligation to postpone fixtures. No consultation with fans etc.
Just trying to make sure their PR looks good.

Hotels booked, travel booked, all other sporting fixtures going ahead but nope, no football can be played currently… so predictable

Some people do work on Saturday's too, plus like I said people more likely to go out for an evening meal than a Saturday quick sandwich pick up. Only business in my opinion that would suffer more so are pubs and bars.

Yes some people but by nowhere near the majority!! There’s a reason social events are held on weekends and not weeknights Lol

Sit at home? There's more to life than football. Drown a maggot.

Agreed more to life than football, but some could say there's more to life than the royals as well.

So basically we're got to stay at home, shut the curtains and cry. I remember my gran passing away, three days after her passing there I was a Leicester game I attend for me I needed that for my escape and take my mind of what horrible week it been. That made a difference for me, if I stayed at home, I would have felt 10x worse. The queen as I say a special lady, respected but we didn't all know her personally.

No. We don't have to sit at home and cry. You can do as you please. It's as simple as that.

Logical choice there as it involved closing roads off around London in the final stages

It wasn’t going close to London, Friday was Gloucester, Saturday Dorset, & Sunday the IOW

Based on what? Not sure if there would be a huge difference to be honest except maybe Pubs. Food places presumably do better for evening kick off's?

Well it’s quite obvious isn’t it? If you play on a Saturday, people come into the city centre before a game and after a game. That’s not just pubs or restaurants but the general footfall of a city - things like taxis, shopping centres etc get more trade because some behaviours mean other members of family follow them into the city.

If you play midweek, there’s a pocket of two hours from the traditional closing times of work to kick off. So at best places get trade of two hours while there is very little trade post match.

We are heading into a winter of real crisis for businesses. They’d choose the ability to take trade now than have it in March or even worse mid Winter when people definitely midweek leave home/go home.

Been told very likely next Saturday is off because the Met want to prepare for the funeral - a chance they may even call off games in London but keep others on next weekend

you would think that they would like at reversing the fixtures where possible. That would be too sensible though.

Of course there is more to life than the royals. I'm not a royalist but I can see that it's a significant national event.

What’s with all the explanation marks? Are you annoyed that people spend time with their friends and family at the football?

Because they had just been given the ok for games to go ahead but called them off anyway

So you're mad that they left it up to the league/clubs and they chose to do it?

More to life than mourning the death of 96 year old as a mark of “respect” as well.

Let people continue with their lives and show their respects as they chose to, not force people to cancel plans with no logical explanation other than “respect”.

So grassroots football cancelled too? Insane. Stopping kids playing football is a sign of respect?

Yeah and you’d think that’s exactly an area where having kids meet, have a moments silence and therefore talk it through is far more useful than kids sat at home, bored cos the lack of options in activity are reduced.
