They are only doing it in case a minority of people are offended if it goes ahead, that’s why people are annoyed.

Are they though? What proof is there of that? Other stuff already announced it was going ahead and nobody cared.

I can't believe they've postponed events. I was actually working so from a completely selfish view it works better for me, but it's just not right.

If anything I feel this is the kind of response that causes more of a negative feeling towards the royals from your average person. I know she was the Queen but we have to carry on.

Compared to what figure on weekdays - even if the figure is £50k on weekdays (which I assume it's more) - £150k over all the businesses is a drop in the ocean

That was in comparison to a normal functioning Saturday. So you’d expect that gap to be even higher on a comparison of midweek to weekend.

I taken back that you think £150k is a drop in the ocean. If you divided that up between five businesses alone, that’s five employees annual pay or five businesses energy bills for the winter.

If it mattered that much though they’d give people the week paid off work though - that’s what mourning a real institution would do, as most people need time off work and leisure activities when they’re genuinely mourning and grieving.

Most businesses allow you paid time off work if an immediate family member dies, which is the way the country is treating this. It’s the being forced to to still go to work while leisure activities get cancelled which is part that stings.

Country is skint after covid, furlough etc. No chance of an entire week off.

For someone who dedicated her life to us the least we can do is have a few days ‘mourning’.

I for one am glad football/FA is going against the grain of other sports, they always get a bad press but showing nothing but class here.

This is true, we always get kicked in the nuts over leisure but expected to carry on regardless in work. And then get penalised in every way for actually working. Whatever you think of the royals, you have to say as a country we're in a pretty dire state! But that's a different conversation...

He needs to mourn.

I shall tell him tonight when he's on the xbox instead of playing football with his mates.

This is definitely an own goal for Royal Family PR. A lot of people have been annoyed by this and it will fire onto the Royal Family (even though it's the authorities who cancelled). Having everything remain in place would have yielded much more respect for the Royal Family than this.

I kinda get why they cancelled the games for this weekend. But surely next weekend will be at or around the same time as the funeral. So by the same logic they'll have to cancel next week's fixtures too. So now they've got to somehow squeeze in 2 rounds of fixtures!?

Premier probably cancelled out of fear of the right wing media, all it takes is an article or two from the Daily Fail & Scum criticising their lack of respect for playing during "a nation in mourning", then old Auntie Beeb & Sly news will follow suit.

You know it wasn't a government decision right?
