No doubt many Brits will be scraping around at 3pm tomorrow for a live stream of NEC Nijmegen vs Fortuna Sittard.

It's bizarre and massively inconsistent.

For instance down my neck of the woods of course Bristol City is off tomorrow, but the Bristol Bears vs Bath rugby match has been postponed from tonight and moved to tomorrow instead  as the football is off so they can use the ground then.  WTF

They have said that "the occasion will pay tribute to the memory of Her Majesty The Queen, Elizabeth II".

I give up.

Would it surprise anyone if they released a statement " due to further discussions we have decided to reinstate the weekends fixutres" Now they've seen the bad response they've had from fans and media.

Doubt it lol But you never know

The cynic in me thinks the monarchy and government are nervous about any crowd incidents or unbecoming incidents occurring in football crowds this weekend, which is why the rugby is still going ahead.

I’m not saying I think that’s justified at all, just that I wouldn’t put it past them to make a decision based on that attitude.

And I sure hope a rugby player doesn’t punch an opposing player on the pitch this weekend.

I would rather say it's bizarre and massively consistent. The decisions of the PL, FA and all other football associations have been dreadful for many years now in every single aspect of the sport. No wonder more and more fans are turning their back to the sport which is heading far away from the grassroots.

The government left it down to the Premier League. Its one of them where it other events went ahead they all would. Once a few start postponing you'd get hammered for being the only events going ahead.

No way. They're the professors of stubbornness. Rodgers got his Master degree from them.

No, the Gov said events could take place, PL took the decision to postpone.

Wonder what Prince William makes of all of this, considering that he's the president or similar of the FA?..

Government Guidance.

There is also “no obligation” for events or sporting fixtures to be cancelled, or for entertainment venues to be closed, during the period of national mourning, the Government has said. But official guidance suggests organisations may wish to consider cancelling or postponing events or closing venues on the day of the state funeral “as a mark of respect”. Such arrangements are “at the discretion of individual organisations”, it says.

 was it clubs collectively?

Our vote would have been postpone if that's the case.

Our owners are so respectful to our royalty.

Nope but if you have a link for Excelsior v FC Emmen at 8 pm I'd be really grateful as it's a bit short notice to get out there.

Anyway did anyone from the authorities consider the rest of the world when deciding this?

Afterall they are considered, count more than match going fans usually.

What kind of incidents? Arcade Fire (the band) played last night their gig in front of 20000 people in London. The band and the majority of their fans aren't pro Monarch and they've paid their respect multiple times during the gig. I can't understand what kind of incidents there might be in a football match.

This is an important point. Their respect for their own monarchy carries over to ours. I can see them moth-balling all decisions until the mourning period/funeral has taken place.
