Fofana does purringly lovely things, but if your definition of 'defender' rests on their ability to keep the ball out of the net, he's not really very good at it. Based on an admittedly smallish sample set, Faes is.

Faes has really impressed me. Its too early to get too excited but he really has made a huge impact and ever since the Palace game been watching him closely and he reads the game so well and oozes class. Its a great signing if we stay up regardless what happens as the small fee we payed for him will be nothing to what Prem status brings in.

In terms of comparisons with Fofana, its too soon. My gut with him is very good, potentially better but could end up average in time(hope not). With Fofana, the first game I watched him vs Villa he looked like an 18 year old in an under 12s game. He looked like he could be the greatest ever defender Ive seen. 20/21 he was a monster and IMO his ceiling was much higher than anyone ive seen along with Kante, let alone Faes.

Saying that, since his ACL hes not been quite as super human(albeit on not so many games as evidence) but hes injured again and I fear for him to reach the heights of maybe he could of.

Look at VVD and even our Ricardo, as much as people remain positive, it's a life changing thing and you notice the effects more if your ceiling was higher initally.

So based on born talent, its not even close if we havnt got recency bias, however as a club to get a huge fee for a want away player with a potentially never fully returning to peak injury and spend fractions of it on a really good CB who has absolutely no question about it changed us from 22 goals in 7 games to 3 in 7 games is just more fantastic business from our amazing owners and club.

He seems like the hybrid of the best assets of some of our best CBs in recent years! He has the ruggedness of Huth, he seems to read the game like Evans, the aggression of Soyuncu and the aerial ability of Fofana and the determination of Big Wes. Obviously very early days but he looks like an absolute steal at £13 million and I almost feel a bit ashamed of feeling underwhelmed when he signed.

The way he charges forward sometimes is pure David Luiz vibes without the clumsiness - 10/10 signing.

Slightly different types of defenders for me.

I'd say Fofana is more skillful and competent at bringing it out from the back, whereas Faes is more old skool Huth/Morgan type.

I love how Faes celebrates making tackles/clearances and he clearly loves his craft.

I'm a big fan of both tbh.

Not so sure about that. Yes, Fofana is probably a bit more skilful, but Faes looks hugely impressive striding forward, and combines it with being a better defender. Wouldn’t swap back personally.

A central defender is not about flashy ball skills, it’s about being solid and forming a good partnership and wanting to defend. So Faes for me.

In fact Faes and Big Dan look more solid than Fofana and Evans did. Fofana seemed to be your ‘secondary’ CB who needs to play alongside a particular partner to keep a solid defence. Big Wes in his prime or the free kick maestro Huth with Fofana could have been great but Fofana wasn’t about to make such an impact on the defensive form even if he looked flashy.

Fofona was massively overrated. Don’t care, I always thought it. People spoke as if he was one of the best defenders in the World.

We don’t even notice the change in defence.

I’ve noticed a change in the defence …., we now keep clean sheets

You can't compare Fofana to Faes, one is still young and learning the game and the latter has finished his apprenticeship and now developing into a very good defender and future captain.  Let us see where Fofana is in 4 or 5 years time..................probably causing a stink and trying to get his move to Barca or Madrid.

Faes stops us losing matches. Fofana didn’t. We have others who can bring the ball forward-going forward was never our weakness. Another brilliant bit of business from Leicester and full credit to the scouting team.

I see Faes as more of a Morgan/Huth/Evans type defender who gets in and organises the defence.

He’s made a huge positive impact for sure, I see him more as a replacement for a declining Evans than Fofana though. Will be interesting to see how Evans and Faes do together when Evans is back from injury
