Of course there are expectations that can't be met and that's pretty much the same for all competitions. Some you win, some you don't. 

Don't forget France are current world champions albeit not the force they were but still a level above. We were the better team but didn't have the better individuals at key moments. France did.

I think a lot of people after the Hodgson era would argue that Southgate has made them interested in England again after what he's done at the past few tournaments

Of course that's what you hear. It's the fan's anthem, regardless. They sing it but don't necessarily believe it.

But we shouldn't have had to rely on 2 penalties to have a chance.

 

France were bang average.

 

We were scared. It's the mentality that makes a bug impact too.

 

Mock me if you want, but I'd get a new boss in and I'd ask the ECB if we could take advice that's taken english cricket from laughing stock, to white ball double world champions.

Anyone else think subs should have been made sooner that included madders?

if kane buries it and we go into extra time we could have turned the screw on the French with our fresh subs. Wasn’t to bwe got beat by the smarter team (not the better team)

Nice work including the 3rd place playoff in the stats and the final group game where he rested players. Also imagine berating Euro 2020 when we lost in the final on penalties 😂. Again I don't like him or think he's actually a particularly good manager, but I can say fair play and admit he's done a decent job at major competitions. Name some other midfielders you'd have in the squad? Bearing in mind he isn't going to take a load of uncapped or predominately untried players.

We lost because we couldn't convert the peno, score that anything can happen... I don't think they was smarter first half they were ahead from a wonder strike and we was the better team second half and that's with the ref on there side.

That's just picking white ball players, instead of our outside the box picks being folk like Jamie Dalrymple. I'd rather not take advice from an organisation that failed to punish Yorkshire properly.
