I really fell into a deep depression after last summer which had me considering taking my own life. I told myself I wouldn't get my hopes up, but we went and did it again. And now that happens. I'd rather we just got pumped 4-0.

Time to just take tomorrow to recover on sunday and prepare for work.

It’s a positive sign that you can recognise the situation you’re in and can talk about it, keep talking about how you feel and take care.

Well Kane's trophy cabinet still empty. Bottled it in true Spurs style there!

Doubt he will be around for the next World Cup. Same for Walker, Henderson, Maguire, Sterling

Southgate has achieved more?

What trophy do we have?

Oh, the same.

None.

This isn't club football where he has under achieved in a league year after year and in numerous cup competitions. He has twice gone further in major tournaments and matched anything Sven ever did here.

The only thing I think can be levelled at Southgate tonight was the Sterling sub which was bizarre in context. I think Mount is very pedestrian but Henderson had been up and down helping Saka all game so Walker could sit back and take care of Mbappe, he was dead and we've no other fit options centrally, really.

I get people wanting change (I think it's the right time) but I really don't get the laying into Southgate based on tonight. We were really good value and had them rattled. Can't blame the manager for that penalty, Maguire's header skimming the post, Bellingham's hit being tipped over.

Think Southgate’s had a good tournament.

Everyone before the tournament would have said Quarters. It’s par, so today was all about the performance. We couldn’t go over the top attacking today cos the counter for France is deadly

I think the question is, would any other Coach have done more.

It‘s a question that is unanswerable.

Can i just ask was anyone confident that we would win at any time?  I mean genuine confidence not just hope?

Nope.

France better first half, England in the second, but without really threatening. The penalties were both just really bad defending rather than a player bringing someone down cos they'd been wrong-footed. Pickford had to make a couple of amazing saves.

Not sure what game people were watching who are saying we were the better team, it was pretty even stevens, with a tiny bias to France in my opinion. :dunno:

There’s only two trophies to win at two year intervals. Its hard - it’s sport at its very highest level.

The media have started already… harsh on England, we were the better side in the second half etc etc.

This is what we do in this country and I’ve seen it time and time and time again when we’ve crashed out of tournaments.

We’ll make excuses. In reality, at international level, England are a bunch of losers. When we face a proper international side when it REALLY matters, we lose.

Invariably, we lose.

The question of why we lose has been debated a million times over and we usually try to solve the problem by replacing the manager.

But, when push comes to shove, there’s something mentally which makes us fold.

The French don’t, not in footballing terms anyway. We could match them tonight in terms of playing personnel but Giroud wanted to get to that header more than slabhead did. Kane blazed an absolutely shocking penalty over the bar when it really mattered.

All the talk will now restart, the manager might be replaced, understanding will turn to fans being pissed off. All the analysis will happen.

But at the end of the day, in international terms, the English are a bunch of losers when it comes to football. We have been ever since 66.

Possibly the best example of this tonight is when we got the last minute free kick. You just KNEW that it would go to Rashford and that he’d put it over. It might be close, but he’d miss. That was when an adventurous manager might have had a player on the pitch who has proven to be sublime this season with the dead ball. But Southgate took him as a token gesture.

As I said at half time, it’s all quintessentially so English

We were the better side. Kane scores that pen and I'm convinced we go on and win it. No criticism of Southgate or the players from me, we were on the wrong side of an incredibly tight game. I thought the performance was pretty spot on.

We didn't deserve to win that. Played for penalties, awful defending second goal which was coming as gaps were appearing all over the place. Crap subs again, Sterling, Rashford and 2 minutes of Grealish?

At least with Bellingham, Rice & Henderson we've improved our midfield from previous tournaments. Foden is a special player, as is Saka.

Defences win you tournaments. If you give away cheap goals you're either going to be chasing the game or building one on sand.

Best of luck to Morocco, although I feel it's scripted for Messi. At least England France felt like a genuine, if all too familiar game.

Yes, but the quality of the international competition is not as good. Look at where Holland, Germany, Italy, Spain and Portugal are now

Nations League?

Getting spanked 4-0 by Hungary?

But yeah, you lot keep thinking he's the best thing since sliced bread.

But if you thought about it, you'd realise this pool of England players deserve better.

Play to our strengths...a wealth of attacking talent.

Exactly, Capello and Sven had great managerial records before managing England and on paper would be classed as better managers for what they achieved. Which highlights it isn't that simple when a manager as 'inept' as Southgate apparently is, has bettered what either of them ever did with England.

By far the better side. They’ve scored with a long range effort and a massive deflection. Created more, had some woeful decisions go against us too. But you can’t miss a penalty and expect to progress.

As a neutral I though, right up until that missed penalty that England were a slightly better team. After that I knew it was pretty much over.

Tbf I don't know how anyone, whether a France or Argentina or Croatia or England supporter be "confident" about winning. At this stage it's fine margins that decide. Kane scores that and you could as well go through.

And that proves my point.
